China blocks Gmail

A discussion about basic freedom is off-topic in a censorship thread? Fine, I'll butt out a you want.
You don't talk about basic freedom in China. You talk about Russia and issues not related to blocking Gmail.

Surfing the internet via relays can allow one to choose the exit node, where it appears that you are browsing from the country where your selected exit node is situated. Selecting China is interesting. They certainly have controls on the internet, but nowhere near what the media articles claim. Basically most of the content of these articles is pulled from a propagandists **** rather than being proper journalism.

Picking a country like South Korea that is friendly to the US is a different matter. They are everything that the media claims that China is but there is very little criticism in the media.

Even some first world countries can have their points of irritation regarding control compared to South Africa. It is for the good of the people apparently.

Actually it's much worse.

You can't enter Chinese waters without having your satellite traffic routed through their government approved servers so that they can block or modify what you are surfing.

Russia isn't quite as bad but you also need to jump through hoops to take a satellite terminal into the country and then only for a month at a time with a pre-approved permit.

Google schmoogle. I'd rather use competitors that don't try to know me, my likes and dislikes, and while supporting the perverse western agenda. They will sell me out in no time - I don't trust them, and I don't see why China should.

I wonder if this makes it harder for Chinese hackers to hack gmail? If it does, then it's a good move for non Chinese gmail account holders
