China - Taiwan Developments

That doesn't contradict the poll that they prefer the status quo. Because the alternative is war.

The Taiwanese don't want reunification, but they also don't want independence as it would imply war.
Perhaps the question should be, if an authoritarian regime wasn't threatening you, would you want independence?

Knew those were US tanks moving through Taiwan :sneaky:

The ignorance is so bliss over here. Since Obama's pivot to Asia strategy the USA has been arming the pacific to the teeth. They have basis in Okinawa equipped with missiles that can flatten Shanghai in a blits.

For China to invade Taiwan with its mountainous landscape that has been fortified for 70 years would be a more expensive landing than the invasion of Normandy.

Almost half the Taiwanese voted for political party that wanted better relations with China and cooperation, the party of Chiang Kai Shek (the general that fled Mao's regime after the civil war). It doesn't mean integration.

The current status quo is the best deal for Taiwan, it allows its "independence" and it prevents war.

Hint - try reading from page 1
Give me the cliff notes.. Am still trying to figure out how someone so innocuous as a US politician simply visiting a country is seen as a provocation by all the dictatorship apologists on MyBB.

Can you lot have a discussion without mentioning the US? You guys are obsessed.
As soon as the US is not involved, we can have a separate discussion about China VS Taiwan.

Defending tyrannical regimes like China isn't a good look.
Not so much about defending China, personally I despise everything about the CCP, but we have this half dead egotistical cow visiting Taiwan (against Bidens wishes, supposedly) to serve her own interests and potentially igniting either a global or regional war that has an effect on all of us.

The Ukranian war has been an excuse to raise the price of everything, a Taiwan/China war will be 10x worse

This comes at a time when nobody on the planet needs Nancy ****ing Pelosi visiting Taiwan

Taiwan clearly wants the US to be involved, surely it's not for you or anyone else to decide who Taiwan has dealings with? If Taiwan didn't want Pelosi to visit they could have refused her entry...

And yet the white house is scrambling to repair relations with China

What does the US get out of this provocation? Why do they care so much for the Republic of China?

Dictatorship apologists - and so the othering starts.

Pelosi sides with and openly supports Taiwan (independence) in a Taiwan VS China conundrum. Taiwan is currently not recognized by the UN. As such, she is working outside of the proper channels.

Same as Russia promoting the independence of Crimea and Donbas actually.
