Chips arrive slowly

As slow as you can go...

"Uncharacteristically slow"!!? Quite in character (if you ask me) much like everything else in this country.

The chips have been avaliable since 2002, the banks didnt get their arses in to gear and get the infrastructure working.

Exactly they've been using this tech overseas for years. Well if they want to pay the increased costs of fraud its not my problem.

i hate to break this too you, but the banks where ready in 2003....just nedbank wasn't, they weren't even interested in the idea....they were too busy counting their profit and buying smaller banks.

nedbank held the entire country up. the system doesn't work if one bank doesn't play ball.

i know this as fact

First National Bank says it is taking a practical approach to ensure customers gain tangible benefits through this project. “At the moment EMV cards are not the hottest things. We are planning to migrate onto the EMV system, but we're not in a hurry. We will, however, distribute them to our customers when they can be beneficial to them. For now they aren't.”

Not true. Standard Bank is only issueing these card to employees as a trial. After this has been successfully been conducted, they will impliment across the whole customer base.

Standard Bank still needs to change a few things before they can give these cards out, but if I can remember right, we will start issueing these cards by June or something.

As far as I know ABSA was ready ages ago but they were the only bank.

I used an EMV card while I was in the UK and I must say that I prefer these EMV card! They do have the downside of the PIN but I still prefer the EMV card above the older magstipe cards!!
