Hi, been suffering with lower back pain, side of my back going down into my leg, for ages now, at a point now where the constant pain is getting to me. Been to a physio without any improvement. Also been for xrays and all looks normal. I am now playing with the idea of going to a chiropractor to see if they can help.

Any recommendations of a good one in Cape Town? Preferably Century City or Northern areas.

Chiropractors are not real doctors, their belief system is basically quackery. Have you gone to any orthopedist? A doctor who has actually studied the human body, has to keep up to date and is based on science.

I agree about the chiropractors not being real doctors, but at a stage where I am willing to try one.

Nope luckily I've not hurt myself in a way that requires it. Though my wife has been to orthopedic surgeons for stuffing up her ankles, she's been fine. We are in JHB though so couldn't give recommendations down there.
But rather go to one and see what the issue could be, it might even be muscular as if x-rays didn't pick anything up, it's more then likely soft tissue issues.

Cool, will look for one of those as well. Main thing is I just want to try all my options that doesn't entail surgery first and thought a chiro would be the next best option.

It's interesting, I sort of follow the same mind set about them. However many many years ago I knew someone studying to become one and part of their degree was physiology, so I'm wondering if it was perhaps just that institute that added that as a mandatory.

But yeah you're better off letting someone drive over your spine and these practitioners touching it.

I forgot her name, but we went to a chiropractor in the newly built medical center behind Panorama MediClinic..

Yeah no a chiro shouldn't ever be an option. May as well go to an acupuncturist.

Look they've got to study physiology, as they are still working on the human body, they just aren't studying the same things as a doctor specialising in the field of orthopaedics would. Their whole ideaology is based on quack science

Chiro practors have their time and place.
I suffered with major pains in my neck, for years, doctors, physio, and and and... Wash rinse repeat... Every few months.
And it would then take nearly 2 months to offer relief. As it started in my young teens a little over a decade after that I went to a chiro. Xrays in tow. He had a look at those. Did his chiro thing. Went back twice and things were much better. Only needed to go back 10 months later. And after that 18 months. Then about 30-36 months inbetween after that. So now I seldom go, but due to how the problem is caused it will reoccur and the only operation fix could potentially (65/35) leave me quadraplegic and I'm not up for that. I rather let the bones move (slightly) and then have them realigned than to have the nerves fiddled with.

So I take it you've not been back to a real doctor since you were in your teens? Which was how many years ago?

From his page
"From babies and children to full time mums"
No no no, babies and children do not need to have anything "realigned"

Does that mean that they can't help?

Anecdotally they can, you might even get lucky and have one that does actually work. But scientifically they more then likely aren't doing squat but giving a possibility of crippling you. Both physically and financially.

Just some info on it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiropractic
I know it's wikipedia.
"D. D. Palmer founded chiropractic in the 1890s,[23] after saying he received it from "the other world",[24] and his son B. J. Palmer helped to expand it in the early 20th century.[23] Throughout its history, chiropractic has been controversial.[25][26] Despite the overwhelming evidence that vaccination is an effective public health intervention, among chiropractors there are significant disagreements over the subject,[27] which has led to negative impacts on both public vaccination and mainstream acceptance of chiropractic.[28] The American Medical Association called chiropractic an "unscientific cult" in 1966[29] and boycotted it until losing an antitrust case in 1987.[21] Chiropractic has had a strong political base and sustained demand for services; in recent decades, it has gained more legitimacy and greater acceptance among conventional physicians and health plans in the United States.[21]"

Been suffering from spinal problems my whole life. Had a fusion in 2010, the biggest mistake of my life. Now I use a baked bean tin and my back problems are no more. Almost all back problems are caused by stiff muscles. Learn to relax those muscles.

Bwhahahaha.
I saw a real doctor 3 days before seeing the chiro and I see the doctor first so xrays can be done to make sure it's the same.

My nerve runs along a spot it should not. So when I have even slight tension (even just bad sitting posture) it flares up as the nerve gets pinched. Then muscles tense to protect the nerve, but in reality it then hurts the nerve. A vicious cycle over and over. So I have to be careful how I sleep, sit and a small portion how I walk. But I will not let them make my body a useless blob just so they could have a 35% success rate. And that was recently. Originally it was: there is no op that can fix it.

Oh and ofcourse the vein lies in the same wrong place.

Very few people have this problem, but there are others.

Google back pain exercises, strengthen the muscles around back. Worked for me. And what is your weight.

I had hip / leg pain while on a roadtrip (3 weeks)

Tried doc - just got anti-inflamms
Physio - got massages and whatnot - didn't help
another physio - same same
got to Cape Town and in desperation went to a chiro - fiddled with my feet (measured leg length), figured out my ilio-sacral joint was a bit skew, twisted me around a bit and without drugs or anything my pain was gone

the drive back to JHB was pure bliss compared to the 3 weeks of pain before

also I get tension headaches base of skull, could take meds, but chiro helps almost immediately

I'm a firm believer in using a chiro when warranted, not a chance in hell I'll let a surgeon loose on my spine unless all (physio, chiro, radiologist etc) are in agreement
