Chiropractor

Why do they always need to see an x-ray? If it's muscle damage an x-ray isn't going to show you a lot of that.

It's either a way of making money off of you or just a plain waste of it. X-rays should only be used for things it's good at picking up. A chiro should only send you if he suspected one of those issues, but they won't because they actually are not medical doctors so have no real training.
The only times I've ever gone for x-rays in my life are when I broke my arm, when I suffered an injury to my neck and when they had to confirm my ankle wasn't broken. Even when I had a sore back, I went to a GP, they checked what they could, prescribed anti-inflammatories if those didn't work to go to a specialist, they also said I should try just relax. Not one x-ray, if I'd gone to a chiro it would've been x-rays of my entire spine just in case, and problem a few different shots of it.

"What the Chiro does to fix this is first try and relieve the muscle in the back by massaging the back, he will then realign your spine which has been pulled out by your muscles and finally adjust the hip so that it sits in the right goo and not on the bone (the cause of the issue)."
A physio can do the same thing?

Nope that's why I went to a chiro o_O like how are you not getting this.

Anyway I'm out cant keep dropping myself down to stupid anymore!

Physio's, orthopods, Gp's and bio's all disagree with you as they have all sent me to a chiro to get better as they can not help.

What happens when your hip goes out is the ball joint that fits into like a cup on the hip is pressed basically to bone on bone. Normally it sits on cartilage and other goo in your body.

This causes intense pain at the hip area, your body doing what it can to protect it self relies more on the other leg, this causes you tendons to literally pull your back out, you are sore from your neck down to your ankles and any pressure on the leg that is out sent chills through your entire body. You also experience your muscles in spasm and you back goes hard, at this point no amount of anti-inflammatory's are going to release your back and your muscles are holding your back like that. You now have to find a way to release all the mess your body has done to itself.

Here's where the chiro comes in.

What the Chiro does to fix this is first try and relieve the muscle in the back by massaging the back, he will then realign your spine which has been pulled out by your muscles and finally adjust the hip so that it sits in the right goo and not on the bone (the cause of the issue).

Hopefully that is layman's enough for you.
haha, if you say so.... ;)

People getting tricked by Chiropractors doing physio things that they aren't qualified to do. Rather get a qualified physio to do the physio stuff and leave the qualified chiros to their pseudoscience stuff.

The orthopedic surgeon I see also insists on an xray before doing anything. If it doesn't show up on an x-ray then that is information the doctor can use too. It immediately rules out a number of conditions that would show up on an x-ray and narrows things down for them.

Chiropractors are not real doctors, their belief system is basically quackery. Have you gone to any orthopedist? A doctor who has actually studied the human body, has to keep up to date and is based on science.

I am seeing a medical dr for my back issues stemming form a car accident. He knows I see both a chiropractor and a physiotherapist and supports it.

Neither therapy can fix the problem (damaged cartilage) but both treat the downstream symptoms of tense and spasming muscles (physio) and joints getting 'stuck' as a result (chiro). There is actual peer reviewed research that both can treat symptoms and slow the progression of the disease.

I am a very science based thinker and as a result have tried both therapies separately and apart. Both together work better. All 3 practitioners agree that the other 2 therapies are important.

Re your comment that medical Dr's are always up to date that is not the case - they are simply to busy to read all the research out there. I have in the past taken research to my Dr that he did not know about. As long as its peer reviewed and publish in a reputable journal he considers it valid.

Hi, been suffering with lower back pain, side of my back going down into my leg, for ages now, at a point now where the constant pain is getting to me. Been to a physio without any improvement. Also been for xrays and all looks normal. I am now playing with the idea of going to a chiropractor to see if they can help.

Any recommendations of a good one in Cape Town? Preferably Century City or Northern areas.

Pain going down the leg is usually an issue with the sciatic nerve having pressure on it. Chiro helped me for that but keep seeing the physio as well.

Chiro made you wallet lighter, which helped alleviate the pressure on the nerve.

Interesting idea but I'll stick with the explanation provider by peer reviewed science ;-)
So than not chiropractic medicine? As there is little to no peer reviewed science involved in it.
