Chlorine in Valpre spring water

Drink the water from your kettle once it has cooled off.

The tap water in the Cape is not too bad, although people tell me if you put filters on it you will get a shock.

The reason I mentioned drinking the water from the kettle is really Boy Scout stuff, if you are not sure of the water then boil it.
The water takes on a different taste and your mind is at ease in regards to getting that odd spout of diarrhoea or sore throat from out of nowhere, not saying if comes from the tap water, but who knows what is the water these days.
 
Occasionally the tap water here in PTA also has a distinct chlorine smell. Couple of days of boiling water & then its fine again.

t.b.h chlorine doesn't alarm me too much though. Given the state of our SA rivers I'm all for chlorine (and fluoride).

Yeah its pretty good...as long as you don't venture from the major cities. In some places its widely acknowledge that the water is undrinkable. e.g. Grahamstown. They've got shops there that do nothing but fill your 5L bottles for a small fee. And its not a case of a few nutjobs...

I've been filtering Pretoria water for years. Its legit - nothing shows in the filters that scares me.

The water you get out of your tap is cleaner than the water you get from bottled "spring" water. Tap water actually has very high standards that it has to adhere to and is tested everyday for quality. Anyone who buys bottled water is a complete idiot, if you are buying it because it is supposedly "purer" than tap water. You being ripped off so badly your head will spin.

You obviously haven't tasted the water from my local municipal water supply yet. I've spent about R100+ on water per month for the last 4 years. Tap water tastes revolting. Our staff at work even clubbed together for a water machine in the staff room for some water fit for human consumption.

Eh well then your municipality is up to paw paw, taste is different from quality. Maybe it's clean but just has weird minerals in that make it taste funny. :D I've visited one of the smaller water treatment plants in Gauteng and they do over 400 different tests a day, just testing the water. Maybe Gauteng is different from the rest of the country.

Well I'm almost diametrically opposed to Gauteng on a nationally geographical level so any comparison to Gauteng is largely irrelevant.

now if you were a chemical engineer I might be inclined to listen to your generalist advice ;)
