Hi, I want to host a web site and am looking for a South African host. Which would you recommend? I want something linux and fast, but good prices.

PS: No sales pitches please.

Well which is the best idea in your opinion?
I was thinking of Texo

If it's essential that your website is hosted in South Africa, you won't go wrong with Afrihost or Hetzner.

Well, we posted at the same time. I have a large number of forum members as clients, so I'll leave up to them to comment.

Your (texo) prices look pretty good, but I've heard some bad stuff about reseller hosting.
Does serv.co.za have their own servers, or do they also resell?

Sad but true -- that's because anyone can resell hosting. Texo doesn't resell. We have our own server.

They resell, I think. Their server is located in the Ace-Host server warehouse in Atlanta, USA.

Hi Supernova,

We would also be more than happy to be your web host - we also do not resell and we own all our servers.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions about our service offerings.

iv been Emailng texo with all sorts of stupid Question and not once did they get irritated (maybe they did but they didnt show it) but i must say their service sounds good and im joining for sure thanks steve ( i think you would know who i am sure that i send you more emails then anyone else in a month)

Texo seems too good to be true. Compared to Hetzner and Afrihost, their prices seem ridiculous. What's the catch?

Hi murgus,

The "catch" as you call it is because the Texo server is located overseas. South African bandwidth is very expensive, that's why hosting overseas is cheaper.

I'm a happy client and I've got 2 domains with them ;)

Murgus -- I'm flattered that your first post concerns Texo :D

Honestly, there are no "catches" apart from what tera mentioned. The reason I started Texo almost two years ago is because after slowly working my way through one disappointing experience after the other, hosting my clients' websites with other local hosts (more than twelve of them, from the big guys to the little resellers) I had enough and decided that I could do it better, cheaper, friendlier and more ethically myself.

Fortunately our clients think we're doing a good job. Not one of them has left us.

OK, so if I have my domain registered with another hosting company, what do I have to do to have you host the site? The site is not running yet.

You'll need to let the hosting company know that you'll be changing hosts, settle any amount you might owe them and then make sure that thtey have agreed to accept the update ticket.

You can then let us know when you're ready and we'll take care of the transfer for you.
