Hi all,

I've just returned to SA after a long stint in the UK. I'm currently on a prehistoric 1mb connection, after being used to a 50mb fibre one - not a shock to the system at all. I'll be moving at the end of the month - thank goodness, and need a new ISP.

Any recommendations? I will be in the Sandton area, 3km from the Benmore Gardens exchange. I have heard this has VDSL trials - is this something I can get, or is it a closed trial?

I would be using the connection for online gaming, lots of media (YouTube, Vimeo etc.) and the some downloads. I'd of course be looking for an uncapped connection but don't have any issue remaining within fair use policy (I guess dependent on what that is defined as).

Thanks!

I've had no issues with Mweb so far, and their service has always been top-notch.

Thanks, I just checked webafrica and VDSL is not available in my area, I must be connected to another exchange. I will have a look at Mweb, thanks. Anyone have any feedback on Afrihost?

Openweb or Mweb. Test both, and see which one you prefer.

Note that openweb is completely and utterly unshaped on the weekends and after hours. Also IS's news provider is unshaped during office hours too, but other protocols tend to take a hit during office hours if you are not on a gold package.

Mweb isn't as amazing after hours (still shape you here and there, and my there be mercy on your soul if you ever try SSL something on mweb's network), but it is also "less bad" during office hours.

Depends on what you use it for.

By the looks of Afrihost's prices on VDSL, I would go with them! I'm with MWEB and haven't been very happy lately..
