Christmas tech wishlist

Powerful gaming consoles, premium smartphones, huge TVs, and sweet-sounding headphones are among the best types of gadgets you can gift a tech lover this Christmas.

Back in the year 2000 people said the same if you spent R2500 on a phone.

Or R1,000,000 on a car.

Yet here we are.
Except you can get plenty of great phones for much, much less. There's simply nothing that thing does that warrants that price tag. So it folds. Big whoop.

xiaomi redmi note 10 pro at 5K.Most expensive phone ive ever purchased.Doubt you need anything better.
Exactly. Got the same phone. Does everything a phone needs to.
I've never looked at a phone and wished it folded. I doubt many people did. But they made it and convinced people they had to have it. One day there'll be an article about stupid phone designs and foldables will be in there.

One can argue that you spent an equivalent of someone’s monthly salary on a phone.
Each to their own.
But I get what you mean that no phone is worth R37K

It takes a special kind of stupid to spend 37k on a phone.

This. Phones will get out-dated in about 3 years. The chance of it being stolen in SA is also so high that I would not buy anything more than 7k personally.

That’s why the trick is to have insurance and trade in every year.

I don't need the latest specs. Just something quick enough and decent camera. I hope to get three years out of my Redmi Note 11 I got in July.

I got almost three years out of my last phone which was a Huawei P10 lite.

I just checked and my 512GB iPhone 14 Pro Max was R35k. Phew, glad I'm in the clear.
Ok let me revise my previous statement. Anyone with a phone that costs more than 10k is an idiot.
Anyone who spends that much on an iPhone, doubly so
