Chrome vs Firefox vs IE vs Safari

My Firefox is loaded with add-ons and doesn't hang or crash. And I frequently have many tabs open. Maybe one of your add-ons was causing issues.

I hear you.
I tried everything. Re-installing Firefox. Tweaking memory settings. Un-installing all my add-ons and re-installing and testing one by one. You name it. Eventually, I just said to hell with it and tried Chrome. This was 3-4 months ago, so maybe a new Firefox/Firefox Addon update has solved this.

Agree 100%, I'm sure a lot of so-called Firefox problems are due to users not checking for addon/extension updates.

I have Chrome on my system but only use it for compatibility testing, as my system runs 24/7 the fact that Chrome might load faster than Firefox is immaterial and I certainly don't find it "intuitive".

My only complaint about Firefox is that every time a new update is released, my Kaspersky Internet Security Add-Ins become incompatible and get disabled. It takes months before they fix it. Kaspersky and Mozilla really need to work together to fix this.

I'm pretty sure the same would apply to Chrome though.

I'm trying to get into Chrome, but a few things are proving hard to find solutions for. Any help would be appreciated.

- I can't find an RSS reader that functions like the Firefox one. Ie. each feed sits in the bookmarks toolbar like a regular bookmark.
- I can't find the equivalent of Flashgot. Ie. something to send download links to an external download manager.

These two things are extremely important to me.

I love Chrome for it's simple syncing with my Google account and it is generally pretty snappy.

I still use Firefox too when I want to download large files so I can use DownThemAll. Wish DTA worked on Chrome.

A big reason why I chose chrome when I ditched opera is because it is the biggest, I am done using small browsers since the do not get the attention they need. Firefox could be doomed to go the same route.

I just wish that Chrome would :
Have task bar previews for tabs
Give the option to avoid pop-unders
Be less of a memory hog

Strange that IE is more popular than Firefox on myBB? I would have expected the reverse.

I'm a Chrome user, does everything I need it to. I used to use Firefox back in the day but the memory leak issues put me off, and I changed to Chrome. Not looked back as there is nothing I miss from FF to be honest.

A lot of people access MyBB at work, and many companies use IE as part of their IT policy. That probably explains the prolific IE numbers...

IE10 is actually not that bad, even in terms of performance it is quite snappy.

Firefox is my preferred browser due to the available plug-ins. This include DownThemAll, the Youtube downloader, Adblock and a few others.

Forced to use IE (but I did upgrade to ver 10) at work.

So I need to type the name of the site I want to search every single time I search? Seems much slower than a simple drop down menu. Does your method work for Youtube, Amazon, eBay, torrent sites and Wolfram Alpha?

drop down is slower: if you have ever typed bing.com into the browser, chrome will have it stored. "bi" should prompt bing.com after that. typing "bi[tab]" is supre fast, and as your're about to type a search string anyway, your fingers are already at the keyboard. a mouse is notoriously slow (move to dropdown, click, move mouse to selection, click).

and yes, it works for wolfram alpha, youtube, isohunt, and the pirate bay (but not amazon and ebay).

i like chrome because it uses so little vertical space. bookmark bar comes back with ctrl-shift-b.

i can easily access tabs that are open on my phone or home pc. from my phone i can easily access tabs that are open on my work or home pc. you get the picture.

there are so many excellent addons for chrome.

it is super stable.

however, firefox does handle flash video better, particularly with live streams (supersport).

the only times i use a second browser is when i want to log in a separate user account on a site and i need cookies at the same time (so can't use an incognito window).

I somehow missed Foxish. It's working great, so thanks for that. I did try Simpleget though and it's rubbish. Will keep looking.
