  1. I want to replace the existing amp, on the second quote a Europower 2500 was quoted. They have quoted for 4 speakers (not wanted, overkill). I'm thinking a Europower 1500 for the main Tasso speakers, and a Reference Amplifier A500 for the cry room and Lobby ceiling mount speaker.
  2. I'm concerned with the number of inputs on the 18 channel, only 6 XLR inputs (2 mics, 6 guitars). Change to XENYX 2222FX
  3. The cry room needs speakers.. what about MONITOR SPEAKERS 1C-BK? The existing ceiling mount speaker will hopefully be ok.
  4. I'd like to upgrade the Tasso PS10 speakers, to PS12. (Mainly because the PS12 look nicer!)

An amount of R23 000 was approved. The feeling is still to replace the entire system. I'd obviously want to keep the price down, but I think R25 000 will definitely be approved, but perhaps up to R30 000.

I think the items are in the right order, for most important on the top of the list. and the most expendable at the bottom. As for the items I suggested, I have no clue - just found these by browsing online, so please suggest alternatives.

My last concern, is that the wireless mics are going to be a hassle (battery recharging), with daily use and no dedicated sound team to run them. It will be the priest using the equipment on a daily basis. Sure there are advantages, but I'm wondering if the extra cost of the wireless is better spent on the other equipment listed above? If we do go wireless I'd like to confirm that the sound is of decent quality, no signal drop, and that the receiver shuts off the channel if the mic dies.

Original Quote was for
  • TASSO PS 10 LOUDSPEAKER
  • XENYX 18 32
  • ATW 1452 AUDIO TECHNICA UHF WIRELESS MIC SYSTEM

Anyone have any experience with the wireless mic make/model, or any other suggestions? This is all very new to me!

the shure wireless sm-58 is the best in the market I believe, I know quite a bit about sound but haven't worked with stage sound.

With stage sound the important bits are
1) The mics
2) The sound techie
Those two things + maybe speaker placement influence the end result the most. Everything else is not so much of a priority.

For wired mics, I'd go for shure. Wireless is mostly sennheiser I think.

I've had (important) events where I had a wireless mic for the speaker. That failed, so I had a backup wireless mic ready. That failed too. Thankfully I had hidden a wired mic close by stage. (If plan A and B fail...)

However I've also had many events where wireless works like a charm.

If you want to keep things portable, check out some cable "snakes". Very cool, but cost quite a bit.

ETA: Keep in mind that home CD players and studio CD player go into different inputs. Home ones are either 10gba higher or lower....can't remember which way round. SO you've usually got an extra aux input for that on the mixer.
