Circulating vs fresh air.

Actually checked today.

Hitting recirculate button turns the Auto off.

So that tells me climate control wants fresh air.

It will because you've essentially triggered it to "manual".

On my car, if it's hot inside and I put it on auto the recirculation is on and once the car has cooled to a certain level it turns it off automatically.

Switch to circulate when:
1) you have enough fresh air in the cabin and you want to keep smoke / fumes / bad air out
2) you have enough fresh air in the cabin and you need your aircon to work more efficiently

Don't leave on circulate for long trips - CO2 is poisonous.

Generally in the passenger footwell. Never worked on a hyundai though, sorry. It will be documented in your owners guided, either under cabin filter or pollen/dust filter

Thanks for advice. Found the filter taking out the cubby-hole. The thing is stuffed with dirt and probably has never been replaced. Will buy a new one in the week.

Makes sense and I suspect mine does the same.

Just wasn’t super hot today.

Maybe Stupid Question:

How can I make my vehicles aircon cooler. I have done a service on my aircon with new gas, but still find it not cool enough on a very hot day. Like today. Does it depend on the compressor?

Hyundai Accent 2006.

Even a maximum settings, my only gripe is the noisy fan at higher settings, mine is also the not the best with cold air pipes passing too close to a hot exhaust manifold, but it works ok .

Yeah, Max is a bit much in noise.. Then Ill rather keep it not to cool. From what I can see my pipes are close to the back left corner and behind engine, so doesn't look like it should affect it. My dash inside gets pretty hot baking in the sun, so that might effect the air before it comes out of the vents. Maybe I should get one of those fluffy sheep skin carpets and put it on the dash....

Yup it’s probably a too small compressor (or rather economical one) to compensate for lower engine output.

Otherwise it would drag the car down to a standstill every time you turned it on, like in the old days.

A better solution would be tinting your windows so the interior just remains cooler and requires less air con.

Problem is that Hyundai model has 82kw,(1.6) decent enough power for the aircon, I think there is a fault somewhere, maybe the switch that switches the aircon on and of is faulty or intermittent?

Can you hear it switching on and off RedViking?

It is definitely working and I can hear it switching on. When, let's say, it is 23 degrees outside it works great. Aspecially if the car hasn't been baking in the sun. The air coming out of the venta are nice and cool that I only leave it on lowest setting. But when the temps are 26-30 the aircon becomes less effective. Even switching it to mid or high speed the air coming out of the vents are not as effective as when it is a bit cooler outside. I suspect it is because of the car baking and a combination maybe with a smaller compressor?

Well I guess that would depend if it suddenly started doing this or was always this way.

I’ve generally found the smaller / lower power cars always have weaker air con units.

Considering the average air con takes about 3kw to run that’s a huge chunk taken off 82kw peak engine output to make it work.

Much more so at normal driving power output.
