Clareinch (Claremont Exchange) Congested

So it's a pretty consistent pattern that can only indicate congestion on the exchange. Starting at about 5 PM pings slowly creep up, until about 11 PM at which point pings start to decrease again.

Can anyone else on the Clareinch exchange confirm this?

Yeah I'm also starting to believe this exchange is congested.

I usually get >100ms latency in the evenings and <10ms in the morning.
Right now it's hovering around 70ms...

Meh.

I was chatting to a buddy of mine who also lives in the area and he has the same issue. Some nights local pings for DOTA2 hit 120-150.

Speak to the TelkomZA Rep, They are fantastic, I'm sure they'll assist you further with it. :)

Yeah. He helped me get my line up to 10 meg. Sent him a PM already about this problem though. Maybe if the thread gets big enough someone will push this higher up the food chain.

TelkomZA on twitter have responded and are following up. As I type this I've got 100 ms to local. Started climbing at about 14.30.

I've also started to notice, I live in the area and the problem has started getting worse in the last few days. Can't game at all with pings like these.

I got a call from a Telkom technician/service rep today after I'd opened a fault about the issue a few days ago. Explained to him about the latency and how it is recurring and he agreed it's probably an issue at the exchange (he even mentioned congestion) and that he would get them to put me on a different port. We'll see if that helps but positive response from Telkom so far.

I'm guessing Telkom are working on it coz yesterday was patchy, but at least it was better. I played till about 7 without issues, then went out. Got home about 10.30, had bad lag till 11.15 or so then it was fine.

Got a phone call from Charl (great service from the guy as always) acknowledging that an ESR port is congested, and that the fault has been logged. Unfortunately it's a fairly substantial issue and needs to go through all the red tape associated with these kinds of problems so no ETA on getting it fixed.

If you have a problem and are in this area, please PM TelkomZA so they can get an official record of it. Hopefully if they get more complaints SAIX will sort this out faster.

Another affected sad internet user here. So does this mean they're going to fix it? I saw you posted on the other thread that had complained about our exchange. Something to note here is that when I did research on the clareinch exchange is that it's something like the biggest or the second biggest in the country. So I assume upgrading it/replacing it is going to be no easy task and will probably take a heck load more money than your average exchange.

Basically the social media team have identified and logged the issue. Unfortunately it now has to be dealt with by the SAIX engineers which means it may take a while. HOWEVER, it will get bumped higher up on the list of things to get fixed if more people log official complaints. I will PM you the reference number for the issue at the exchange.

Hey guys,

If you are having an issue SPECIFICALLY in regards to latency and slow speeds during peak hours and are on the Clareinch exchange, PM TelkomZA and explain the problem. Mention that it is probably related to the following issue:

NF - 26AWK050414 (latency spikes being caused by intermittent congestion on the ESR port on the Clareinch exchange)

Thanks for all the effort zolly . I have sent a PM with the fault ref above to TelkomZA. Have really been suffering on the Clareinch exchange recently and it helps to know the problem is not at my end - have literally tried everything from swapping modems, ISP accounts, techies rewiring my line, forcing the family to disconnect their devices etc. Nothing has helped.

No worries man, I just want to get this **** sorted out as soon as possible.

I guess my connection must have been near ground zero because I started noticing issues about 6 weeks ago but it wasn't too bad. It's been slowly getting worse but last night was terrible! Gaming had like 20%+ packet loss. Streaming would just constantly freeze up. Browsing was slow and unresponsive... makes me wonder why I am paying for this line coz I come home during the week and on some nights it may as well be dead to me.

I've had the same. Noticed it a while ago but it wasn't so bad. Doing some research I saw that congestion is like a snowball. Once you start seeing the problem it quickly gets worse and worse and until it's unusable.

I had youtube put me down to 144p last night when I have a 10mb line and a 6mb account :/

Telkom tell us that ADSL is a "Best effort service" I rate we should start telling them payment for it is "best effort" too.

i am also affected by this issue. started at the beginning of July. down/up speeds are 10MB but the latency fluctuates between 50-200ms. I have gotten over it and cancelled my service.

Sadly I love my gaming too much, but if it does get worse I will have to get a backup service until they get this crap sorted out. I have borrowed one of my friend's Afrihost 3g wifi things to test tomorrow. If it gives me decent latency to EU I will use it until the ADSL gets sorted out.

Telkom LTE works fine here, but is expensive compared to DSL
