I've got the same poor SNR and occasional packet loss problems with some CRC errors. However at least I managed to get a 20mb line :/

As for the fibre interest, there is plenty around the Clareinch exchange. I just doubt anyone is going to rally the neighborhood to do anything about it.

That's pretty lucky, what part of Claremont are you in if I may ask? It seems that whatever I'm connected to is limited to 10meg, according to the Telkom rep.

That's true, if I was planning to live here permanently I would make more of an effort, but since I'm just renting and likely to buy a house elsewhere in a few years, it's not really worth it.

I've indicated my interest here, and so should everyone else:

Honestly I'm not sure I want them as my ISP. For R800 p/m you get a 10mb line, is that a joke? Telkom offer 20mb for R600. Granted it's only 50gb cap and you have to be in the golden zone but still. They have no mention of a SLA and instead give us "up to", no mention of FUP or AUP, their website seems to be missing quite a few pages and the rest seem to redirect to "Are you ready? Is your area available?". I've also never heard of them before and you have a recipe for a very dodge company. At least in my view.

I live on Queen Victoria street. Pretty close to the exchange. I'd say I'm on the borderline for VDSL though. My SNR is pretty poor and so it my attenuation. I wouldn't even bother trying for 40.

Ah I see, that does seem pretty close to the exchange, I'm a bit further away, across the railway line.

Although after having a quick look at the Broadbandstats website (not sure if this is still accurate at all) it seems my line is connected to CLAREINCH, however there is CLAREINCH PROTEA PLACE DCS30 which is actually much closer to me. Perhaps I am connected to that and it in turn links to the main Clareinch exchange? If anyone knows exactly how this all works I'd love to find out some more details :)

Just moved to Claremont 021671**** . Latency seems to be ok but speeds highly erratic. Business capped account. Any headway with fibre or exchange upgrade?

Presume you are staying at one of the big student complexes ?
I am in Marlborough park, and they are in process now of putting in Fibre to the building - it is worth speaking to Cybersmart to pitch the idea - I did so about 8 months ago, and I am staring at the fibre pigtail outside my flat currently.
They brought in a deal where the owners pay R3999 for install, and all flats get fibre.
I think tennant is due R999 "initiation fee" and then R599/month for 200/200 1.2Tb data

*EDIT*
If you scan for WiFi - do you see WiFiber ?
I can give you details to test with if you need.. it's a WISP in the 'area'
