Hoping the Cell C rep can provide more info on this package. I would've pm'd but I thought rather let everyone get the info.

According to your call centre and technical dept, this bundle cannot be added to an existing prepaid sim. Is this the case? (some on the forum say it ain't so). If so, can a sim swap be a solution for adding this bundle to my current number?

Now since you already have a 30-day 3GB bundle for R400, your call centre consultants are understandably confusing that bundle with the one which is active for a year. This is why I think there are conflicting reports.

Jsek, it seems that there is a monthly cap of 256mb on this package.

Also would like some clarity on the 256Mb per month statement, I understand that its 3Gb to be used within 12 mths (365 day window) and the 256Mb statement was to imply that 3GB used over 12mths is 256Mb per month and not 256MB available per month/30 day window.

If its 3Gb with a 365 day window then I'm getting 2 of these for my two laptops.

Would also like clarity on the new sim only as you one can purchase this promo as a virtual voucher from what I understand

I just went to a Cell C store today and here is my experience.

1. The staff were initially unsure of the 3GB/365 day bundle...I had to wait for the manager to confirm it existed.

2. They had "no stock" of the sim-only 3GB/365 day package....but were keen to sell me the 24Gig modem bundle!!

3. Since I needed to get a micro-sim for my ipad2 they said I would have to pay R84.00 extra for that then do a sim swap of the bundled sim once in stock.
(Why cant these data bundles have both a micro-sim and full sim option to cater for everyone- Why do u have to throw away the included sim and why do I need to pay extra!!)

4. I asked then if I could buy the micro-sim now then I can add R400 to the sim and convert the rand value to the 3GB/365 bundle...they said this was not possible for 2 reasons i.e the micro-sim cannot be bought alone as it has to be a sim swop from another sim and anyway I can only load 30-day bundles from using the *147* shortcode and not the new 3GB/365 bundle.

PLEASE CELL-C REP EXPLAIN THIS TO US!

The consultant at the technical desk I spoke to was adamant that there is a monthly 256mb cap.

Also, I gather from tRon's point 4 that a new sim is needed, i.e. it cannot be bolted on to an existing sim. Kinda sucks but sim swap may fix that (tRon's pts 3&4).

Anycase, just speculation from experiences, patiently waiting for Cell C rep's reply.

There webiste says 3GB valid for 365 days and they also promote a "3GB Smartdata Voucher" and this implies I can just buy the voucher and load it onto an existing SIM.

Thanks...but what about the micro-sim issue wrt sim swop etc.

Also is it limited to 256mb per month or not?

Good Day tRoN

You can use the data as you see fit, try stretch it for at least three days ;)
Then all you do is recharge as you see fit.

Ok....so can u recharge the SAME 3GB/365 voucher "again" after u've used up the initial allocation??

Also do I still need to do a SIM-SWOP for the micro-sim and PAY an extra R84.00?

Good Day

Yes you will have to pay for the sim swap.
and no not the same voucher, you can buy the normal data bundles.
as you seen fit.

So if I understand this correctly.
Buy a R749 for 3GB of data valid for 365 days (average of 256MB/month)
Pay SIM swap for R84 to get a MicroSIM
Then (for example) use it for 5 months until the bundle is depleted

Now your only choice is: Voucher or Data Bundle (valid for 30-60 days).

I don't see the point. I would much rather want to "top-up" with a R399 for 3GB which is again valid for 365 days without the pain of SIM swapping again. In fact if you don't need a MicroSIM and you can stretch your usage that long I would toss the SIM and get a new one.

Edit: Actually there is a voucher that can do just that: http://www.cellc.co.za/internet/page/data-products/3gb-smartdata-voucher

I'll tell you tomorrow. I've busy porting from Vodacom and I bought the 3gb data bundle. I went into the Cell C shop (Canal Walk, Cape Town) and the staff there said it will work. So if it doesn't work, I would want my money back.
