Clearing your Internet trail

Those who surf the internet, buy things online or communicate with friends leave a trail of data. That could become a problem especially for users who have accounts with various services.

I have 3 very simple rules which I adhere to:

1. Set your browser to erase all history after you close it.
2. Stay off Social Networks.
3. Don't use free E-mail account: (GMail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail etc.)

As for your browser erasing all history, if you want to store websites
after clearing your history, add them to your "Favorites/Bookmarks"
When you relaunch your browser, your history and cache will be
cleared, but you can still access your "Favorites/Bookmarks"

Even Mybroadband keeps trail of you

Your three simple rules only clears the trail left on your pc. That doesn't clear the the rest you leave behind...

Problem is when people use those temp emails for places like MyBB etc....

Whats wrong with that?

If I dont want junk email, I dont want them. End of debate. :)

ps: I used my proper email address for MyBB only because they allow me to disable notifications if they didn't I would have had a 10minute one for here as well.

I suppose it all comes down to accountability.

MyBB won't spam your email account, as with the majority of such sites.
With these 10min emails, what's to stop you from causing havoc on MyBB 24/7 (barring your IP address might be banned) and each time recreating an account with just another temporary email account... See my argument?

Using proper email addresses is not going to block that type of people, they will find ways from spoofing to setting up fake webmail accounts so I see that as an empty argument. As for my mail box, it says clean. You also never know when some of the "trusted" sited gets hacked and email addresses stolen. It happens every day.

So I guess only thing we can agree on is that we dont agree on this subject :)

Browsers are not really the main culprits, are they? My problem is with smart phones. You may have separate accounts with, say, facebook, twitter, or Google+, but on your phone you have one identity which link all these. That way google or apple can potentially determine the link between all your on-line identities.

Most browsers nowadays have an option where you can browse "In Private". IN forefox its "Start Private Browsing". In opera, it's "New private Window" and in chrome its "new incognito window". These only prevent stuf from being stored locally, but you still leave a trail online.
