Cloned number plates causing e-toll problems

So, if some ***** clone my numberplate, can I go to the local cop shop and ask them to retrieve my "stolen" vehicle? :D

So if your plate gets cloned and used on a similar vehicle (same make, colour), how are you supposed to prove it isn't you?

I have to admit, their whole system is F#&@( anyway.

1. My grandfather, who is 83 years old, lives on the South Coast of KZN, got an SMS stating he owes something like R600 in e-toll fees.

2. My grandfather haven't been in Gauteng in over 10 years.

3. He have owned about 2 cars since he was there.

4. He received his SMS on his iPhone, which has a brand new prepaid sim-card in, with a new Number that he only got 3 weeks ago.

Somewhere is something definitely not lekker.

Sounds like a scam, ignore it!

Probably why they used an old copy of e-natis despite the project costing us billions, they thought everyone would get tagged like good little soldiers and do their database cleanup for them on our time..

RFID technology should be installed in vehicles for identification and not just for tolling.

RFID technology should be installed in children for identification, location-detection, location-based consümer services, and tolling, amongst other applications.

I would not be surprised if it was a cop (SAPS / Metro) that has been using that vehicle to commit the crimes mentioned in the article.

There should be a separate thread for that article as there are several fishy aspects that need further discussion, for example:

Police officials told The Mercury they had tracked the car’s whereabouts and went to the owner’s house to question him last Thursday.

“When we got there, we were told that he had just left to go to Soweto,” an officer said. “I then phoned the driver and asked him where the car was, to which he replied that he was driving it. He said he would meet me the next day.”

Have you never heard of informants? And for the contact details I would imagine whoever told them they had gone to Soweto, probably provided a phone number as well.
