I was speaking to a friend of mine yesterday about this whole label thing.

It's his birthday tomorrow and he invited myself and my SO to dinner with 2 other friends. Thing is the 2 other friends do not know I'm gay so bringing my SO will be a big surprise for them. And I don't see why it needs to be. Why does it have to matter who I'm seeing? Why should people care?

So annoying...

Not to worry. I took my ex to my friend's 30th birthday. At that stage, she suspected but didn't know for sure. Both her and I acted very nonchalant about it.

Yeah, ok, wait, but... how do you know it will be a "big" surprise and would it matter if it was just a bit of a surprise? I mean sure any sort of surprise means they had some sort of preconception about you but does it really matter? Isn't having preconceptions just one of those foibles of human nature? Obviously they can be a problem but, are minor preconceptions really a big deal?

I assumed that Ockie was a screaming bottom for years ( :D ), should he be offended? I really only get offended by labels when people can't just let go of their preconceptions.
