I hate to be that guy but, http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV/AIDS#Transmission

We're talking about someone's luck to almost win the lottery here. Normally the guy that gets HIV is the one that sleeps around and has sex very often. First he'd have to have sex with someone who has HIV. Secondly the viral load would have to be significant. Thirdly he likely needs to have hurt his dick somewhere during intercourse. I'm all for scare mongering the **** out of people when it comes to HIV, but there is absolutely no real reason to make him fear the worst.

As for not liking condoms... Some people just don't like them.

south africa:
Women aged between 30 and 34 and males aged 35 to 39 had the highest infection rates: 36% of females and 28.8% of males in these respective age groups contracted HIV.

Never bothered to look at the pricing before, but that early detection within 10 days test is R6995! and the within 28 day test is R1495

Jeez like. That is very expensive. But to do that test they have to like crack open your own cells and see if little viruses are in there or something like that. Guess that is a expensive procedure with specialized equipment.

Just taking the 'Post-Exposure Prophylaxis' is probably cheaper than doing the test! But eish at the side effects...

So, how long do you have to wait to have the normal test and what difference does it make except knowing sooner? The 28 test is doable but, sheesh, there's so much I'd rather use the money for.

PEP seems ideal until you look at the side-effects. I'd have to start tomorrow at the latest but I don't have the time to deal with diarrhea and vomiting.

Just go see a doctor to have the tests done. It shouldn't be that expensive (especially in SA).

PrEP as I understand prevents it, but you have to have started using it in advance if I'm not mistaken.

I'd actually like to use PrEP. Just for that little extra comfort.

There is normally a 3 month window period. So you will get tested now for your current status and then again in 3 months or so.

Ja, PrEP needs to be taken daily without fail and you need to have started it before having a possible expore event, not after.

I dont. What happened. Do tell.

I either remember two similar threads or it was one and I don't remember it that well. Someone started a thread about having sex with a guy or a prostitute and not using a condom. I think.

Frankly, I'm regretting mentioning the condom thing a bit. I was kind of hoping someone would say that it's a bit bad but probably not such a big deal. It kept me up a bit last night. I messaged the guy last night but he was asleep already and I didn't really feel like broaching the subject when he got back to me this morning. I'll feel a lot better after I've asked him his status. I don't really want to talk about him that much on an open forum but, I didn't get the impression that he's a massive slut or risk taker. I think it was just two guys feeling comfortable with each other, being a little drunk and taking a relatively, considered risk. I may be wrong of course.
