Hi,

looking to implement a new backup solution for small business server. Considering cloud based solutions instead of replacing an old tape backup system for off site storage - is this a wise choice?

Then use Acronis SBS creating a full disk image for quick recovery / scheduled backups, as rotating external drives for backup is not an option.

The data is not highly sensitive and totals approx 40GB.

Check spideroak.com
They do encrypted online storage. Not even they know what they are storing. You lose the password, they can't recover your data. It has it downsides, but at least it is secure. Pricing isn't bad either.

I use DROPBOX together with Cobian Backup - Each machine backs up its data to a central backup HDD at specified intervals, a machine then backs up the backup to the DROPBOX account. I also have another module that copies the same backup set to an external HDD. Any MYSQL, MSSQL, Exchange is backed up using a backup to file format and those files are copied to the backup machine. Cobian has various options as to what kind of backup you want to do, and DROPBOX allows for incremental copies of changed files to be kept. DROPBOX = 50gb for about R700 per year. Power of DROPBOX and Cobian is that only files that have changed need to be backed up, so once the initial backup is created the following backups are quick and easy on resources

Dropbox is really good, even the small free option.

You could always get a mac and believe in the rumours that mobile me will be free soon...

+1 for Dropbox, the possibilities are endless and ease of use amazing, I use it to sync and backup data from Windows XP, Linux and MAC machines all without any issues.
