Hello everyone!

I am currently doing my BTech at NMMU and decided on a topic for my 4th year project, relating to cloud computing and the adoption in South Africa.

I would like to ask if anyone knows about someone busy with Cloud Computing in a business environment and if I could possibly bother them a bit throughout the year as I'm working on this project. It will be small questionnaires and information gathering, hopefully nothing on a huge scale. :P

I have some networking knowledge/experience as I have finished CCNA1-4, CCNP1+3 and currently doing CCNAS and CCNP2.

Thanks in advance,
Roobir

What do you mean by cloud computing? That term has become a bit of buzz word that people like to apply to anything....

I'm talking about businesses increasing their capabilities without investing in new infrastructure, training new employees or purchasing licenses. The cloud of computers provide remote services, like data analysis, word processors and e-mail, that can be accessed over the Internet through a simple Web Browser.

What's your research question? Are you looking at 1) the potential for cloud in SA, 2) the adoption rate of cloud in SA, 3) a case study (good or bad) of a cloud implementation in SA.

Cloud was the subject of my Masters thesis and I'm heading up a work group for my company focusing on establishing a group wide governance framework for cloud computing. Shout if that perspective is aligned with the specifics of your topic.

isnt cloud computing those new things that all the game developers are trying?
you simply go to the website, choose any game even Crysis, the game run on a remote PC and just streams everything to you (picture and Sound) so ur pc doesnt need any hardware just a good internet connection

That is an example of cloud computing yes, but cloud computing is much more.

Gmail is an example of a service that lives on the "cloud" too.

I use 'cloud computing' for my outsourced email so fire away.
