I always though that Oranjemund is next to the sea, or on the sea. Tell me, if you go over to South Africa over that bridge, do you just show passport or need to pay some toll like at Maseru?

We like to think that Oranjemund is next to the sea.... however, the road to the beach is 10km, or 4.5km as the crow flies...
From your side, the crossing at the bridge is known as the Alexander Bay/Oranjemund Border post....
you show you passport at the Alexander Bay border, cross the Oppenheimer bridge (single lane) , Namibian Immigration you show your passport again, then a mere 5m the road splits..... left to Oranjemund, 6km away , for which you need a permit from the Minsitry of mines and energy or you can take the right road, no permit (recently changed) and drive 90km through the restricted road just north of the Orange river , known as the North Bank Road....... till you get to Sendelingsdrift........ and then Rosh Pinah...

Ha! Just got an email from CNN in London, they coming to my dorp to cover the shipwreck (see thread about my back garden) and are thinking about doing a bit on our unique town, the history , the people and the future....
I run a website to try and preserve the history of my town and in all honesty with all the politicians and officials trying to make a buck had started to lose faith in it's future.....
I have offered to take them on a tour of the town and environs, giving them a history lesson, letting them know what should have happened to my town.....thus arming them with "real questions" to ask the local leadership.....
