CNN just emailed me!

The Moose doesn't go to CNN, CNN comes to the Moose!
 
So the call came down the wire.....

CNN are flying in at 16h00 , and I am off to collect them...

Turns out the mine has got wind of this arrival and called me.....their communications department..... asking if I would kindly bring the crew over to their main guesthouse for a security induction before tomorrow morning's mine tour to the shipwreck....

I reckon that the mine must be wondering how on earth the Moose landed up with this lot..... ;)

Communications department were asked by CNN to forward me the agenda for tomorrow....

The mine are not too fond of me..... mainly for being a wee bit too vocal about the going on's down in this remote corner of the globe...

Tis' gonna be a great day..... :twisted:

The forum section is active to this day .....friends reunited.....we , from this small town, are scattered to all the continents, I still receive a card from Japan.....

I lived in Oranjemund for 9 years as a small child. 1978-1987. It was a lovely mining town back then. I still have wonderful memories of it...
 
Please let us know when it will air and what time so that I can inform my parents and family. They would love to see it!!
 
Well, for those that know me.....I ain't a person to display any air's and graces..... took me old Mazda down to the airport yesterday afternoon and thank goodness I did.... 19 pieces of luggage between the two lads.... Camera equipment galore....

I was correct in warning the boys that the mine will try and "move" their shipwreck agenda to suit the corporate mine...

As instructed my the mine's overlords I headed to the main Guesthouse....where an array of the mines communication, safety and security personal were waiting....

Everyone was scurrying around trying to get refreshments organised....idiots...... /Moose sends an sms to the local Spar, rectifying the situation within 5minutes...

Security department starts to lecture the crew..... within minutes , much to the disappointment of the visitors, it becomes clear that they will not be allowed to use their state of the art drone over the mining area....WTF? I shake my head at the mentality of this large mining entity....

Later , I asked a high ranking mine employee as to why they may not be allowed to use the drone...

"Oh! we don't want to give our employees any ideas on how to steal diamonds!" , he replies...

In disbelief, I shake my head........ /insert a few choice Scottish words here....

In all honesty I was quite happy that the mine jumped in with a program as now they will be taking the crew up through the Sperrgebiedt to Luderitz, stopping of at places like the Bogenfels (shown below from my trip) and a few historical off the road Ghost towns...

After their meeting finished and I took them for a quick informal tour around our town, ending off at a local restaurant for steaks..... .Moose would like to thank Ted Turner over in Atlanta for buying me a meal...... :whistle:

This morning, they are in the mining area filming the wreck and artifacts.

Tonight we braa/BBQ, they have requested fish on the coals....so I have asked one or two of the local lads that are fishing down at the beach for a Cob or Steenbrass...... Looking forward to hearing more of their tales.......tonight...

Tomorrow, I get to give them a history lesson on our unique town...

On a side note, an unusual site in our town..... A huge Red Bull MAN overlander triple parked outside the Spar.... being the kind of sociable fellow I am....I met the two occupants..... turns out they had planned this trip for the last 15 years.... shipping the overlander from Germany to Walvis Bay...... his wife had seen photographs of the Gemsboks roaming our streets and always wanted to visit....

They even stopped me on length 14 of my daily swim to ask me a few more questions and I got to chat to them again last night at the restaurant....

Nice having visitors to our small hamlet....

Just tell them journo's to stay on there side of the border.

I only have 1 very small request.

If there are ANY do-able CNN reporters/staff (female) that askes you for a contact to get some Africa in them. Please let me know. I'll be on the first flight in.

Edit: I see in a follow on post they just lads. Best phone Ockie then :D

Always a pleasure reading about the Moose's adventures down in Nambia.
 
I don't suppose they flew James Earl Jones in to say "This.... IS CNN!"?
 
The film crew arrived late from the mine..... two hours late.......

Two hours is about the amount of time it takes for Moose and two other guests staying at the guesthouse to get acquainted.....

Sitting in a local steakhouse the previous evening the I asked the crew what they would like to dine on the following night.....

"Fish!", the both exclaimed, "The meat in Namibia is awesome, but we're eating too much red meat ...fish if you can"

So the following morning, I was sitting at work, mentioned to my butchery manager about their requested and asked if he could find some fish for a braai that evening.....

"Sure, no problem", he mumbled as he continued to type on his laptop.

About four hours later, I was looking for the manager, all over the store, outside at receiving, upstairs in Admin...could'nt find him anywhere.

An hour later I returned to my office to find a Whatsapp message on my phone.....

It was from my missing manager, he had sent me a photograph....

In full Spar uniform he went down to the beach, and caught 5 Cob in 40 minutes....

I could'nt complain, after all I did ask him to sort out the fish....

That evening, he smoked two of the fish for the crew and cooked two more over the hot Namibian coals....

Your manager obviously buys into the whole "if you want the job done right do it yourself" thing :D
