In my experience if you have a .com account international people take you more seriously, escpecially if that is your audience. I've also found that that in my case google ranks a .com higher than a .co.za. Dont know if its like that for everybody though.

Depends where you search, if you use google.co.za a co.za site will have a higher ranking than if you were searching via google.com
Which is, again, why you should be using .co.za for local business and .com for international. When I'm looking for local services, places to stay or local online shops, I prefer .co.za results simply because it feels like the're saying "Yes we really are South African businesses". When they use a .com domain you can't help but feel that there might be too much outsourcing going on and you'll end up with support/shipping/booking issues.

I dunno... I've registered several .co.za domains directly with uniforum and the process is pretty easy. Just fill in the blank spaces in the text file they give you and email it. Hell, I did one this Sunday within 5 minutes (reason it took that long was because I was asking the owner of the new site a few questions while doing so).
But granted, I suppose the first time it seems a lot more complicated than it really is.

I think he was referring to dealing with them as in emails or phone calls to staff. Simply registering a domain is an automated process and the only interaction required is informing them of payment for the domain.

Tell me, how do I register a .co.za domain without nameservers? The nameservers I use, only allows you to use it, if you are the legal owner of the domain name. I cannot be the legal owner of the domain name without nameservers. Seems like a catch 22. Stupid requirement.

well i would rather go for .com, if local isp's like web africa take more than 5 days just to activate a .co.za domain.
its been on "pending activation" since monday. and this isnt the first time, I have 3 other clients who experienced the same delays with them
.com with godaddy took less than 30 minutes

Give them a call, both .com and .co.za can be setup in a hour.
