Coconut Water

Go to Fordsburg. Dude with a trolley full of coconut husks. Pay R10. He chops of the top, you get a cool refreshing drink. After you give him the husk back and he cuts it in half and eat the soft flesh.....tastes better than it sounds :)

Thai coconuts...

The fresh coconut is delicious, much better than the canned products and healthier too.

I tired one of these once, was weird tasting. My wife couldn't stomach it at all.

Not sure if it was off, or if it should have tasted that way. Hard to describe it, it was kinda sweetish nauseating rich.

This thread got me interested. I found the freshest coconut water possible at Food Lovers Market, it's still in a coconut and sold for R24.99. The coconut has been carved into a cylinder with a pointed top, and it's kept near the pineapples. It looks something like this:

Yeah that's the same as the one I bought from Foodlovers once. Think they are called Thai coconuts.

I'm pretty sure coconuts are coconuts :). The baby thai coconuts are coconuts in a young stage, the old round brown things are the same coconut that's matured and dried out.

Coconut water is the clear liquid that's in the coconut when you open it. Cans of coconut cream or coconut milk are the pressed flesh of coconuts.

I learn 2 things in one thread. Ok maybe forget the first one.
