@Pitbull - did you ever do you EC1? In the same boat, wife wants a camping trailer now that we have a little terrorist to keep entertained while setting up... don't really want to do a EB - and then someday in the future maybe a EC...

Did an EC licence instead. (Code 14) in February this year.

Attended a 3 day course and did the licence after. All and all about R 8k spent, but now it's done.

As a side note, when I updated my insurance they only wanted to give me credit for having a licence for 6 months in August, I had to make it clear to them that I have had my code 8 for over 20 years. After a few phone calls credit was given as I mainly only drive code 8 vehicles. Just make sure when you update your licence at the insurance you don't fall into that trap

Tx - If I understand correctly, the EC doesn't cover EB as well? To allow for towing with a car - you need to do EC1...

I'm not 100% sure. When looking at options I was advised by the driving school dude that the EC licence is for heavy vehicles with trailers and thus it covers normal code B with trailer above 750 also. I just took his word for it.

Will investigate a bit more - I'll also ask my insurance.

I see the one driving school does 20 lessons + test for R6600

Going to try find a different school in the Western Cape, if anyone has recommendations, that would be great?

The current one is quite disinterested - wanting me to do lessons in smaller trucks first, which is understandable, but when enquiring if it can be done as part of their EC bundle pricing - I get told that's not their department... and thats it.
