Coding for kids

I bought the Sparkfun inventors kit a long time ago from Amazon:

Easy to follow instructions and a good range of stuff to get started with.

Not quite a kid any more but still young, my niece who is 17 is looking for some direction. I will breach the topic of programming as a career choice at some point soon. Where would I even start? There are so many different avenues to get into to. Mobile Apps seems fun and may be a starting point to kindle her interest. I have no idea.

Wow I must say, did this with 8 and 9 year old tonight. They just... got it. Loved every moment of it.

Did the basic "Learn to Code" course up to repeating functions and they were super surprised when I told them it's basically the same dad does every day.

100% worth buying an iPad for even with the biggest haters of Apple.

Yeah, it's fantastic.

I haven't personally used it, as I have been writing Swift for 6yrs (iOS dev for 8yrs) - but its a great way to get people into coding and like you say, even if you don't have an iPad - it's worth getting one for this, if that's the interest.
