[Coffee] Beans!

I've tried quite a few types, and use about 2kgs a month.
Woolies 1kg beans for me are best value, consistent quality.
If price wasn't an issue I'd go for "bean there"

Some discount on illy beans at WW from today, still hellish expensive at > R440 / kg.

If you must buy beans in bulk, then you can freeze them.

So few people supporting local artisan roasters?

Getting freshly (hand) roasted beans is the only way to truly get the best out of whatever equipment you have at home for extracting coffee.

To get freshly roasted coffee that's literally sat for 48 hours after roasting and is in your grinder directly thereafter you need a local roaster with enough turnover to keep them roasting and not sitting with roasted beans on their shelves, you need to support them.

Also: your'e clueless if you think that Woolworths overpriced, month old beans are worth it when your local should be in the region of R40-60 per 250g of hand roasted freshness (you can only keep roasted coffee for 2 weeks, a typical household with 2 coffee drinking adults will use about that 250g in two weeks assuming moderate consumption.)

Seriously: seek out your local roasters and support them. You will be rewarded with very fine coffee.

I'd love to support them Mike. Where are you paying R40?

I haven't had the best experience with Kenna, tried it a few times and I'm generally thrifty as hell but woollies is worth the few extra bucks, Kenna = bleh

500g
KENNA R65
Woolies R76(after 10% off with Woolies card)
I use the red Kenna with my La San Marco espresso machine and it tastes great. It's fairly course ground out of the packet so I run it through a grinder again to make it finer so it's suitable for an espresso machine.

Deluxe Coffeworks (I go to Roodehek St.)

I think their house blend just went up to R42 for 250g and it is unbeatable.

Really consistent, I have been buying it for years.

That's a good price, will give them a try once I've finished my current batch of beans

Fantastic, thanks for that. I will certainly try them. If you have more gems like this do share please.

Just checking .. you are buying in small quantities? I saw this on their website ...

"Can I order a small amount from a store and not online?
No, the stores only deal with orders larger than 5KG."

WW has their Continental beans on promotion R139 / 1kg. I no longer buy WW beans though thanks to the great suggestions above.
