Yup, i'm planning to go off grid because of frustrations dealing with CP. I was a prepaid customer for last 20y of good standing, then mid Nov25 they just removed my prepaid meter and replaced with postpaid, no notice, no documentation, basically 'stole' my loaded units and subsequent purchase that then couldn't load.. goooone. Multiple disputes/complaints raised with CP, CoJ, joburg ombud etc.. for irregular removal and now more pressing escalated estimated charges.. Nada. Dec, Jan & Feb CP consumption est charges are literally 10x actual, since I have solar and generate 90% of my demand. So CoJ agents said since I have disputes ref open it wont be a problem to settle balance of bill less disputed amount. I did this, got a spreadsheet going, and paid what I actually used. Now I get pretermination order, 1wk ago, and have to settle or be cut off... this after CP did actual reading 2wk ago but haven't or wont capture the reading!! CoJ says i just have to pay or get job card from CP so they can upload actual reading and correct account, but I tried before with CP for job card when they took my meter but just refused. So I proceed with off grid option with genny, costing me but worth peace of mind not to have to deal with CP. Hope my acc billing corrected or I will be paying both for genny and esc estimated charges.. very poor customer service, CP make youfeel like you a criminal for installing solar
