coj off-grid process

Wow, it is really a lot more involved and complicated dealing with the Municipality.

Eskom direct was way simpler. No doubt the more people that do it the easier it will get.

Wait you're Eskom direct and you disconnected? So we have someone from Eskom direct, someone from CoCT and someone from CP who've disconnected... I thought it was impossible and that they will not allow it and and and...

Sir, please, do not come here with your bucket of truths and upset the Eskom non-apologiserers.

Fixed charges where removed BUT as a final f%ck you from CP they billed me some stupid 359kWh usage since the 18th last year. The meter was removed on the 19th of feb. Anyway, whatever, I wont fight them or bother going there, they did what they said and removed the charges and I will be in the clear from next month onwards.

My entire COJ bill was 913 rand and going forward will be about 1900 to 2100 rand. I can enjoy the savings now.

Can we all pitch in and get this man a whisky or something? You are a true champion @denmendez65

CP billing over the last month has been a real cock up, but with those savings that a new inverter/battery every year.
Yeah it will be basically a new 5kWh battery and my current inverter every year.

I should be thanking this forum. I was convinced it wouldn’t be possible until you guys egged me on. And here we are. It’s your turn now @Slowestclock. Not necessary to move out of Gauteng anymore.

If you'd listen to a lot of the people on here you'd swear it wasn't possible.
They were convinced that it wasn't possible.

Hows the solar gen been the past few days with the cloudy conditions & rain?

Solar generation? What's that . It's been almost non-existent and a bit of clearing after 3 helped a bit. Otherwise, I think we are in for some bad generation for the next month and a half.

So that leads to my next question, what’s the plan if the sun doesn’t shine 😅

A 2kW generator would work for me for only charging the batteries. But my baseload is so low I don't think I need one. This month and next month are the true test. I already went through winter last year without issues. It would probably never run. I have the outdoor socket and everything ready for a genie. I told myself I will buy it if my kitchen on non-essentials switches off and stays off for a whole day because of the cut off.

These would be my options. Small, yes, but I really don't need more than this.
