Collecting e-toll fees 'impossible'

Coming back to the OP, how many invoices do MTN & Vodacom send out each month? If they can do it, I don't see why this expensive system can't.

The difference is, if you don't pay MTN and Vodacom they cut you off.

With Sanral, 90% of them will be ignored. Fancy figuring out the admin involved for a few hundred thousand summonses every month ?

For the same reasons that any company is limited, whether it be by production, logistics, human resources, financial constraints etc. You've gotta think these straws through a little more before clutching at them...

To answer your question though, Vodacom's customer base is made up of around 80% prepaid and 20% post-paid on a base of 45 million subscribers. This leaves them with about 9 million invoices that need to be sent. Forgetting the fact that these numbers will be somewhat inflated for various reasons, the postal services has slowly geared itself through partnerships with their largest clients to be able to cater for them. This doesn't just happen, let me assure you...

Most large companies have switched to e-mail billing anyway... so that saves a lot on logistical constraints.
But I'll be a goat's whiskers before I ever give SANRAL one single piece of my private info.
They can do it the hard way.

According to Sanral you have to prove to them it wasn't your vehicle :(

Nonsense. They are just bs'ing you.

You are assumed innocent until proven guilty under SA law. I do believe it is enshrined in the constitution, so I wouldn't worry about that.

If I can prove it was NOT my vehicle, but they still insist I pay the fee then I will not pay it. A court of law will throw Sanral's argument out if it clearly can be proven that it was NOT my vehicle.

So they can go ██████████████████████

In the South African Constitution, section 35(3)(h) of the Bill of Rights states: "Every accused person has a right to a fair trial, which includes the right to be presumed innocent, to remain silent, and not to testify during the proceedings."

They are bs'ing you.

but the problem is, its YOUR job to prove their f'up!

They are bs'ing you.

There's probably some small print...

In Cape Town you can be fined for throwing a cig out the window - based on someone sending the authorities your vehicle reg.

You need to prove you didn't.

Thanks for the less defensive, more level headed answer. Why do you not think that a parastatal doesn't already have partnerships with postal services already? Is the Post Office boycotting the tolling?

Good question, I wonder if they have access to eNatis etc? I mean if I travel up from Durban, how will they trace my number plate?

I'm not suggesting anyone be forced to get a tag. They are being rewarded for the tag. And the whole debit your account is a one sided bull**** story because SANRAL have said you can opt for a top-up account.

A top-up account? So what you are saying is that I could get a tag and never ever pay a cent into the account and how do they get me to top it up? Send me a bill? Well, we're back to sending it in the mail.

See the latest FUD being spread by the spineless media now - sanral will confiscate your license and your car if you don't submit to their spiky assrape.

A better question might be about how many bills does the CoJ send out every month.

Because we know that they always get it right and also have an expensive system.

Bwahahahahaha

*deep breath*

Bwahahahahaha

I do believe that's against my (and my family's) constitutional rights? Who's gonna provide for my family if I can't drive a car, or get to work?

Yeah, right.

And to add to that, the 9 million contract subscribers have all filled out debit order authorisations which makes it possible for them (moblie phone providers) to collect their revenue without having to rely on snail mail. So even if my dog ate my invoice, I still pay for my mobile usage every month.

SANRAL can send out invoices till they are blue in the face and my dog will just eat them all.

And their bills only have 3 or 4 line items.

say a 10 gantry trip, 30x a day = 300 line items... then factor in different discounts and vehicle tiering and all the other issues- this will be a complete cockup.

Or use this :
