A sign of things to come?

Two cleaning ladies at the Southern Sun hotel in Hyde Park have appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court for allegedly stealing money from the Colombian soccer team, police said on Friday.

The Colombian team, who are staying at the five-star hotel, noticed that they had been robbed when they went back to their rooms after training on Tuesday, Colonel Eugene Opperman said.

"There was theft out of their rooms. They went out for about an hour to practise and the rooms were cleaned while they were out," he said.

"When they came back they discovered there was some money missing."

The Times newspaper reported on Friday that the women allegedly stole $21 000 (160 000), however Opperman would not comment on the amount that was taken for security reasons.

Ya lancelot seems your lovely country is a mess tell me I am on my phone :

Washington - The US State Department has issued a travel alert to US citizens living in South Africa or travelling there for the World Cup, due to the risk of terrorism and crime."There is a heightened risk that extremist groups will conduct terrorist acts within South Africa in the near future," the department said in an alert on Thursday. "While a number of terrorist threats against the World Cup in South Africa have appeared in the media in recent weeks and months, the US government has no information on any specific, credible threat of attack that any individual or group is planning to coincide with the tournament."The State Department said it would make any information public on "a specific and credible threat".US citizens were advised to keep car doors and windows locked while driving and not to leave valuables in plain view or to wear expensive jewellery. The alert said public transportation is "poorly developed" and advised using rental cars or private transport instead. And when stopping at intersections at night or in isolated areas, it suggested leaving room for a "quick exit".

Ok, so it's a double post, but here is some data on Colombia.

Wiki:Colombia

Colombia, officially the Republic of Colombia, is a constitutional republic in northwestern South America.

Colombia is bordered to the east by Venezuela and Brazil to the south by Ecuador and Peru to the north by the Caribbean Sea; to the northwest by Panama; and to the west by the Pacific Ocean.

Colombia also shares maritime borders with Venezuela, Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

With a population of over 45 million people, Colombia has the 29th largest population in the world and the second largest in South America, after Brazil.

---ends wiki info

The reality of crime in South Africa can not be hidden or disguised or swept under the carpet, and the shame will unfortunately be reflected on us all. :(

Anyway, I hope the Colombians don't have any further nasty surprises.

Oh, look at that part in bold! Cool.

But as mentioned I extend my thanks to you for your undying dedication to sharing this stuff. Thanks.

Lancelot doesn't mind if people get robbed... those foreigners don't vote for his beloved ANC so they don't matter ;)

LOL @ Sir Lanselot, people been robbed and all he is concerned about is who posted first.

Really sad:cry:

No the really sad thing is the intention behind posting the stories BBSA!! As you can see I was quite clear in the other thread I started to thank the individuals, that it was more about the comments that accompanied the stories than the actual stories. It is mere political point scoring by the individuals and not the Columbian soccer team that they are concerned with.

Called copy and paste. Didn't highlight it news24 did

Oh no, they didn't bold it. I did. Just pointing out that there is no specific threat, like you were hoping for, but rather a warning that due to the extent of the event there is an increased risk. I would've thought this would be obvious...

He is an ANC mouthpiece troll that's all

Ah, yes, that's right, I am apparently an ANC member. Cool.

Oh, sorry, but I took the lead from the OP. He did not seem very concerned about the team and the robbery either. He was more concerned with his comments of it being typical.

BS, they are highlighting the problems this country is facing, you first have to admit you have a problem before you can do something about it. Sticking your head in the sand is not going to solve the problem.

Further salt is rubbed into the wounds of the Colombians when they read this forum and see that we did not spell their name correctly, both threads started on this topic, made the same mistake. :p

Crap. It has bugger all to do with problem solving! If that is what you think this is about then I don't think I am the one being the ostrich!!

And I wish these arguments would rather take place in Chris' thread. He should be rewarded for being the first to "break" the news.
