This is what I don't understand. These bloody morons, Jeanet Mashimbyi and Lucky Mahlatsi, are also probably excited about the World Cup.

Why then would you want to give your country a further bad rep by stealing from a visiting football team ?!?!

Now what I am going to say DOES NOT condone theft but let's get some perspective.

Digital, how much do you think a cleaning lady at a hotel earns?

Most hotels (even those that are not five star!) provide a safe in the room. This is not just the case in SA. Now why do you think they do this? And why do you think it is usually accompanied by a sign recommending that all valuables be locked away or left at the front desk for safe keeping?

I don't leave a R20 note lying on the seat of my car when I get it washed for a reason. The temptation is too great for most!

So you're not condoning theft, unless the thieves are poor? Wow, that's a new low, even for you.

If this was a civilised country like the USA, and you lost your wallet containing $100, you'd probably get it back. Do the same thing in this country, there's no chance in hell you'll see it again.

Oh wow so its the first time that a cleaner stole some thing out of a hotel room.

Big whoop... these guys earn R3k a month, they see $21 000 lying in a empty room. That is 70 000 months of salary for them, like winning the lotto, ever have to work again. Really if you found 70 000 times your salary would you take it or leave it ?

Its a horrible world where people take your money if you leave it lying around. That's why most hotels in the world have safes.

During large events in ANY country there would be a risk. The loony terrorists always target large numbers of people.

That being said, in a country that already have high incidents of crime, the local loony crime bosses consider a large influx of tourists a wonderful opportunity.

Lancelot how much do you think the several thousand jobless matrics from last year earn ?
People who steal lose their jobs and one of the above honest jobless workers fills that position.

The thief who had a job and income is the loser and is guilty of not only stealing but gross economic stupidity.

Perhaps all the other hotel maids who work hard and are honest and appreciative of their jobs, don't appreciate as
being viewed as hungry criminals waiting to rob.

Hotel thefts take place around the world, and thieves lose their jobs when they are caught everywhere.

I remember a story from Japan Tokio where a businessmen left a bag in the Taxi. He had to attend a urgent meeting. The Taxi driver took the bag
into the hotel and it contained $30 000. I think it can only happened in a civilised country. It got nothing to do with the low earnings. It is called
honesty.

Oh, we are lumping petty theft into the same category as murder and rape now. Doesn't seem reasonable but seeing as though it is your kind that makes the rules, fair enough :rolleyes:
