Company announcement sub-forums

Sounds great but if they are just going to advertise their services or products then it will be a waste of time. Also I don't need to read how great some of these companies are.

How about having company reps post under company names in a dedicated company section, but all other interaction with forumites in other threads needs to be under a different name. That will help keep it transparent.

Yup might work

I think it is a good idea, but rpm you will have to keep a strict policy of outages or problem announcements only.

I do not want to troll through pages and pages of new service ads or changes in pricing structures or anything of that kind. Knowing big companies it will start off with the right intentions until their PR or marketing departments hear about it then it will degrade into spam.

Also I agree "normal" users should not be allowed to post otherwise it will become a place where people are very quick to complain about service before even troubleshooting their side to see if the problem isn't maybe with their equipment. (You can see that I use to work support years ago and it is still haunting me :o )

The idea is okay if the company posting is forthcoming with information and doesn't just throw-up the same nonsense you'll see by going on their website for instance.

Nor would I suggest them thinking we're stupid end-users who don't know their "CTRL" key from their "ALT" key.

So if they are respectable, post information that's relevant AND helpful then I say go for it. However, I would still like the ability to have the "Mark as Spam" option so I can comment on the thread created so rpm can then at least "Reprimand" the company that posts on there to be a little more open.

iBurst posting, "We're experiencing network problems due to radio towers being off we apologize for the inconvenience" yadadadyadayada is nice 'n all but c'mon. We're a bunch of techies. Throw us a bone.

I find the image of rpm and AcidRaZor in bed together a bit distressing:D

We are? I'm not. I barely scraped by in math. I don't want to be flooded with technobabble:D
