Hi folks

We have spoken to a few companies and they would like to communicate with forum members but would not necessarily like to commit to lengthy discussions and support. To open a dedicated sub-forum in each forum for company representatives to post network problems, planned maintenance and company announcements may solve this problem – I think it will benefit our members and the company.

Can you please give your views on this initiative?

I think it would be great and think everybody will support it, but it would have been nice if they could give some kind of support to everybody though :)
But I think everybody will attack them so maybe its beter that there is no support hehe

I noticed some members attack the reps.
How are you going to moderate this?

Only company reps will be able to post in the forum - so no possibility of that happening. It will basically be a company announcement forum for network issues etc...

Sounds like an idea - if it is used correctly. That is in the hands of the companies involved.

Give it a shot.

Then we'd need a separate thread for the discussions cause any major/significant announcement is bound to give rise to discussions.

ETA: Perhaps one can make it so that only reps can *created* threads, but others can comment?

I would also suggest that these company reps have their PMs disabled to avoid forumites using them as first line support.

I think the threads can be created by us surely?

I would however love to be able to point out issues to these reps outside of PMs or threads that they would more than likely not come across. Maybe a single open thread in each sub-forum intended purely for pojnting out issues and not discussions? Or as Havoc suggested these could both be incorporated into one thread, within each of these subforums. No duplicate threads then...

Basically what rpm is suggesting is a "company announcement" forum.

Ie. Vodacom posts in their subforum that the network is slow between JHB and Pretoria etc.

I agree with it if that's the purpose.

I would "not" agree with companies if they use this platform which could be created as a way to punt their products however, since they "don't" want to respond to queries from members, I won't give them the satisfaction of free advertising either.

I think its a good idea .... at least now we can get a heads up for any downtime, maintenance, etc.

I vote that people above a certain post count can be trusted? Why not try think of a system that some members are able to respond or add their view to that section.

I like the idea and @ texo RE: Telkom posting - they would need a dedicated website!
Hook them up bru! :D

I really think the sub-forums would be great.
No punting of products though - as tera mentioned - simple updates on maintenance issues and downtime, etc would be really, REALLY helpful! :)

I am merely suggesting a way for us to ...

Ah, never mind. I shouldnt post when I am this drunk...

Benefit v Exposure

As long as the content would benefit subscribers and not become additional advertising space for corporates.
