COMPLAINTS REGARDING YOUR ISPs HERE

You know what I can't understand, yes we have all been burned or let down by our ISP's some way or another, but will we ever be happy with the service we have or is it a continuous fight to the death ?

Lets take an example here, you were a client of allucaneat, you leave because they become expensive, you then join saol who are the cheapest, who are fine for 2 maybe 3 months, you then experience a hiccup and run with your tail between your legs to the next ISP UUnet, u then get serious lag issues so you then hop on the next train and goto axxess where you experience accounts problems because they can't manage their debit orders so your account gets suspended, so what do you do - you leave once again and where to next. No-one knows because everyone has had a bad experience somewhere along the way with 1 ISP or another.

So when will this running stop - when you can finally find an ISP without problems who is going to give you good, solid 24/7 support.... well let me tell you the only way this will happen is if you pay the price... If people were willing to pay the price I am sure there would be an ISP out there that would love to take on Telkom and become totally independent of their service, and be able to pay for decent support staff who are willing to work that little bit extra for the company but in this country right now - come on lets be realistic - is it going to happen ?

so you're saying that we must pay Telkom and our ISP's extra for crappy service and not run off to new isp's? SORRY FOR YOU, you've clearly become another brick in the wall...

the point of complaints here is to get interaction between the few fussy customers and their isp's and to make it public, and get it sorted out!

I for one have my set of complaints with SAOL, however, i'm confident that if i presist, they will sort something out.

So do us a favour Mr Floyd, if you don't understand why, then don't ask why - just go drink your wine, cook your food, and don't read this thread - because having to read your rant is "all i can eat"

You obviously read far too much between the lines LabAnimal, because as a brick in the wall I was just saying that if you want good reliable service you would have to pay an ISP to cut out Telkom and bring in their own bandwidth via whatever means except Telkom, as that's the only way that any ISP is going to be able to compete with the giant T.

now that sounds more like it, and i agree 100% with you - if that is what SAOL wanted to do, and you had to pay more to get better, then YES, i would pay more.

The next question at hand would be how much would one be willing to pay for such a service as bringing in your own bandwidth is an extremely costly affair ?

I posted my origional complaint in this thread on 31 of December, but still not a word on the matter from SAOL.

A Dotco conversation

They're not my ISP, but Dotco appear to be profoundly moronic and backward when it comes to customer payments.

A CONVERSATION FROM EARLIER

Hi, I'm looking over Dotco as a possible ISP and I don't want to do debit orders.
"Well there's a page you can sign up at, and then you make a payment via your bank, and then fax us the slip for confirmation."
Why do I need to send you anything when you can see it arrive immediately?
"You have to fax us proof of payment before we can activate an account"
Why?
"Thats how we do it here"
That's not an answer - I'll ask you again - why must I fax you anything?
"Because that's how its done here"
You're still not answering me. Why? I can access my ATM, transfer money to you instantly, and you can see that a transfer has been made."
"I'm sorry, but that's not sufficient."
Why?
"Er banks take time to provide confirmation of payment."
What are you talking about? I'm referring to a direct transfer of cash.
"Not a credit card?"
No.
"Oh"
Cant you tell instantly from your finances that a transfer of cash has been made?
"Er..yes"
So? What's the glitch? Why make the customer work extra steps?
"Er just hold on."
Line goes dead for 5 seconds or so.. he comes back on the line.
So I was asking - why make the customer work extra steps?
"Er because that's how the company wants it."
What do you mean 'the company' - who makes this policy?
"The company"
What is that? What do you mean 'the company'?
"Er..the owner"
So you want me to - even though I've done an immediate tranfer which you can see instantly - to find some place to photostat that transfer slip, and then pay money again, to fax it to you?
"That's how it's done here."
Yes you said that already - but you're still not explaining why I should have to do any extra steps at all.
"Er other people don't have a problem with that"
You sound exactly like Telkom with that attitude - I'm a customer, I want to pay cash, I dont want to have to 'prove' twice that I've paid you. Why make the customer work extra on your behalf? Who's made this policy?
"er the owner of Dotco"
What's his name?
"I er dont have to give you his details. Look, we've been through this repeatedly and I've told you over and over that-"

I hang up. This idiot doesn't have answers, can't answer logically, yet thinks he's providing sufficient answers at every step.

Dotco clearly are too lazy to be willing to be adaptable and a normal customer-geared business and take a few seconds to cross check that a customer who's phoned them and said they're depositing from Branch X and Bank Y, has in fact done it - and instead appear happy to treat customers like cattle who must fit in with THEIR policy, rather than realising that their 'policy' is bullsh*t and unnecessary in this modern age. They obviously don't want money, except on their terms, which cause unnecessary effort for me as a customer to comply with - so screw them. Normal businesses bend over backwards to get your money, and make it as easy as possible for you to give it to them. Dotco seem to operate differently.

I was considering trying out with them, but after the above conversation, I'll take my money elsewhere.

You would pay more? We have one of the most expensive ADSL costs in the world and you offering to even make it more expensive? lmao ... This is a complaints thread not an "increase the ADSL costs even more thread".

NO!! I WILL CERTAINLY NOT PAY MORE.

Everybody who complain about SAOL had been labeled by Marko (SAOL sales manager)as a "hot head" which does not deserve an answer

Just to set the record straight, if you actually read my statement, you would see that I was referring to one particular person, hence I said I would not mention names. I do not see how you could have misconstrued my meaning, as I certainly did not mean that anybody other than the person concerned is a "hot-head". Please refrain from spreading this unfounded notion.

This is 2006, having to fax confirmation after a cash deposit is so last century. I don't own a fax and even if I did, I'm certainly not going to waste money faxing when all they can do is open their browser, log into their internet banking account and check if your payment has arrived.

Maybe ayce will comment on this company policy.

Maybe this would help ?

It is not just a case of saying "it's not what I meant", I didn't say it in the first place. Why must I defend myself against something I didn't say?????

Helltel, you're quite right, pricing in South Africa is quite bad. However, if a service provider had to come up and say, we're doing A,B & C to get around Telkom and make it much cheaper in the longrun, i would join if it ment i had to pay an initial levy to get something like this going. Personally i don't think this would happen, and i'm quite content to carry on screaming at Telkom to try and make a difference there. (not that it would)

Anyway - you're right, this is not a thread about increasing pricing thread and or whatever you'd like to call it - and yes, lets not deviate from the topic at hand. - you HOTHEAD : )))))

arni1954 - get your facts str8. what you said there i quoted, i quoted the first line, the second was quoted by Linda123. Marko certainly did NOT call us hot heads, i would no longer be with SAOL if he outrightly said that to us!

The only problem with this is that not all employees have access to the bank account or I would hope not. Support staff are expected to work 24x7 but not account staff.

Cheers

Dean

100% correct ABE, I for one cannot check banking details of clients, this information is restricted to certain members of staff, who are not always available, and therefore, it is a requirement to forward confirmation of payment through to our office, where a consultant can then have an account activated without having to search for somebody to verify a payment. It is also impossible for any company to know when a payment has been made into their account by a client without being informed about the payment. The payment does not pop-up on a screen for acknowledgement, and ISP's are not the only companies that demand proof of payment, most companies that I have dealt with require the same.

Nicely put Abe - I doubt if support staff has access to the bank account details - and it should also be remembered that they probably do quite a few of these activations at any one time and it is much easier to work off a fax and get it done quicker instead of referring every application to the Financial Manager for confirmation that payment has been received. They could however make use of e-mail payment confirmations (don't know if they do) as I do also not support the use of fax machines.
eeeish but some people can complain.... :) :) (this is not aimed at you Marko - you have enough hassels here. I would not even have bothered to reply to some)
