Compressing files

I have a Word document that contains PDF scans and PowerPoint slides as well.

Will winzip reduce its size considerably or should I not bother?

use KGB! it lets you choose the level of compression... but takes more time to compress to high levels. And the person on the other sides needs the same program.

Text documents usually compress well. Use 7zip though.

You can compress the size of the pictures in the document. If you select a picture it brings up a picture tools menu. If you select that you have the option to compress all the pictures in the document.

This is with Office 2007 thou.

For an easier and quicker way download PDF Creator & Install

Then open the Word Document, click print and choose "PDFCreator" as the Printer and print, another window will pop up, enter a filename and click save.

A new PDF file will be created and should be considerably small than the orignal Word Document.

I've done this several times, sometimes reducing a word document size from 15mb+ to around 1mb in pdf format.
