Compulsory e-tag - or lose your drivers licence

Sanral: E-tags compulsory

Johannesburg - The SA National Roads Association Limited (Sanral) is attempting to legally force motorists to buy an e-tag or have their driver's licences taken away, according to a report on Tuesday.

Draft changes to the National Roads Act Regulations were submitted to a few parties late last week with a request that comment be received within 20 days of publication, The Star newspaper reported.

If instituted, it would give "peace officers" the power to stop cars and demand to see a driver's licence and to produce any other tag or document they were required to have.

"By implementing e-tolling and the proposed regulations through the Criminal Procedures Act, the government is promoting a very aggressive approach and tense relationship with its citizens," said Wayne Duvenage from the SA Vehicle Rental Leasing Association.

I swear these are going to become the passbooks!

Burn down the gantries

The Cosa Nostra must be consultants on this project with tactics like this. Bladdy rediculous

****** them

They can go tag their a holes. They have no right to take my license.

Yet more FUD being spread by Sanral and the ANC government as they realise that the upcoming civil disobedience is going to be bigger than any armed struggle they ever participated in before.

Also - **** the media for lending credence to stories like this.

Unconstitutional. Won't happen.

Besides, I thought the issuing of e-tags was going "very well"? Why now try to force people?

Why don't you all just find out what the Minister of transports number plate it, get some duplicates made and hand them out to everyone. Lets see how he like's it when he has to prove that 1000s of bills arent his.

I like this idea.

I was thinking about the village idiot's plate.

Does this apply to all road users around the country or just defaulters on toll payments?

If I travel PERHAPS 3 times a year on the freeway between PTA & JHB why should I buy an e-tag????

Hell no.

*sniff sniff*
I smell a Gantry burning...

Mense, hier kom vet k@k.

This "amendment" will get shot down in flames in court.... I would guess that its highly unconstitutional.
