Hi, I suspect my computer was hit with lighting. This morning I tried to start my computer and it starts and dies after a few seconds but I after the third or fourth time it started up fine, after i logged into windows it ran normal for about 5 minutes then it died again... now it just keeps cutting out when i try to start it up. Does anyone know what the problem may be?:wtf:

Sounds like a damaged power supply - do you have a spare somewhere that you can swap out to check ?

and my router took a knock aswell

I have a billion 800vgt router... that isn't now working on the Ethernet ports but the wireless connectivity is still working

Lightning has a way of buggering everything. You need to test each and every component to make sure they work, starting with the MOBO and PSU, two of the most likely things to get damaged; but you really should test everything to make sure....

will get around to test the PSU a little later but how will know if the MOBO is gone- I got a ECS 667 motherboard

Agree on either PSU or MOBO.

First use a replacement PSU and if it still cuts then you know its your MOBO. I would say that there is a 60% chance its your MOBO from my experience.

Im putting my money on PSU problems. I just had some myself, and it sounds a lot like what was happening with my system

Thanx people... will try replace the PSU sometime this and will let you know if it is the problem

I have to agree on the PSU theory. Try a working PSU of a different system on it first. If you still have issues you are moving down the path of a busted mobo and other components...

Hi replaced to the PSU with a new one and it continues to do the same thing.... so i unplugged the graphics card, memory, and it still does the same! so I am now suspecting that the MOBO is fried? any other thoughts what the problem could be?

Well, thats pretty much all thats left.
Happened to be ages ago when we lived in JHB. Mobo was the problem.
It took the Graphics card with it too :(

Hope all your other goodies are still ok!

His Pc does not boot though?

Id get a friends PC and see what works in his etc and go from there. If you MOBO is cooked your not going to have much luck trying to find what is working and what is not.
