Computer not installing windows 11 (says it cannot be downloaded on any drive)

Totally agree with you. My point is that there is probably scope to start an "ethical" Computer repair business where repairs like this which maybe take 20 mins and require no labour are charged at like R150.

there is no way a windows install took just 20 minutes - besides i know guys who will listen to your story then tell you that it will be way more than R350 if they have to sort it out for you - most guys in the game know how long it takes to install windows and the drivers and then make sure its all working and sorted out and activated before handing it back to you - and all of that is definitely nowhere near 20 minutes of doing something even if that something is just them watching youtube videos on their phone during 90% of the installation process

Ended up just taking it to a PC shop for R350 and a guy sorted it out. I know I wasted that money but at least he also attempted to fix the click button which has corrosion. Just so happened that when I dropped it, a glass of water fell on it.

He solved an issue which you couldn't. R350 is nothing. He could have charged double. I honestly have no idea how you could call it a waste of money.

R350 is a standard amount for just installing windows - for additional more complicated charges more shops charge an hourly rate - its not about doing 5 minutes of work or 20 minutes of work and then charging you for an hour - its about the studying and sleepless nights and effort to know what to do with these things when others fark it up and then come to you that you have to pay for (i did the A+/N+/MCSE certifications and it wasn't just child's play - but even an unqualified guy will have many years of experience at doing these things and he has to be compensated for the time, effort and work he put in to aqquire said knowledge) and that is not R100 an hour or even R100 per windows install because the guy who charges R100 will probably hit the same walls as the inexperienced guy does

its unethical to suggest that he did nothing to acquire this knowledge to fix what you couldn't and he just woke up one day knowing how to do it - whereas the reality is that the guy working in the official shop probably went to a varsity or a college and spent years to know what he does

it reminds me of the joke where a company built the most advanced ship to ever take to the oceans and one day the engine stopped working so they tried at least 20 different engineers who couldn't fix the issue and the engine was still siezed - so they go to the guy who was apparently known to be the best in this field and got him to come and examine the engine - he looked at it for 20 seconds then he went down to the propellor and grabbed a hammer and just hit it and amazingly it started working ..... next day he sends the company an invoice for $20 million so the company was enraged by this and the president goes and phones the guy and says why do you want $20 million because all you did was hit the propellor with a hammer and it took you around 20 seconds to come up with an answer ...... so the guy sends an amended invoice that reads item 1 hitting propellor with a hammer $20 dollars Item 2 knowing where to hit with the hammer $19 999 980 so Total = $20 million

people need to remember - some knowledge doesn't come easy so don't talk about ethics till you know what the guy had to do to gain the knowledge to fix your mistakes since that assumption is actually what is truly unethical
