Conference Questions

Since PLuGG is not on the list of speakers, I'll jump on here and offer to answer any questions anyone has for PLuGG. Shoot.
Great idea. We did invite IS to speak at the conference, but did not hear back from the company...

That is unfortunate. I'll go flick a Bic under someone's behind :D If anyone has questions for IS, I'll be able to forward them on to the pertinent recipients.

When the seacom cable is switched on on 27/17th June, will our internet all of a sudden, like a magic wand, improve dramatically and we actually get the speeds we are paying for, or will it still be dependent on the last mile?

Why is it so difficult to find out when Neotel will be coming to my area (JHB - South & Alberton). Could you not place on your website the areas you are putting fibre in and where you will be next?

Why does Telkom give us 'affordable' monthly fees for the new 3G network and then kill it by charging a couple of thousand Rand for a router to work with it?

Pieter Uys:

Where do you see the company in 5 years?

Vodacoms invested millions on infrastructure, whats back up plans are there if it all goes wrong?

Another one you can throw in...

Vodacom cellphone prices are alarmingly high compared to competitors, surely all SPs suffer from the economic crisis but handset deals are much cheaper else where.

From an earlier thread.

Theres continued hype regarding penetration into the Nigerian market, when will something be done and why does the decision have to be so tough? Is MTN to strong there?

Whats your opinion regarding Zain's elaborate growth in Africa?

Will Telkom introduce themselves as SAs next Cellular provider/Converged Cellular provider?

Telkom is notorious for poor service delivery in SA, How do you intend to take on new industry players with such a bad rep?

How are you planning to spend the funds acquired from Vodafone?

Angus Hay

How do you feel competing with Vodacom, a company with such a powerful presence in SA?

Neotels products are very well priced compared to competitors, has the product been succesful in the Corporate environment, what are the main problems you come across regarding gaining new bussiness.

How has the economic crisis affected Neotel?

@ Brian Seligmann - MTN

When are you going to include latency as part of your data product characteristics?

@ Pieter Uys & Wally Beelders - Vodacom

When are you going to include latency as part of your data product characteristics?

Why:

These questions pertain to the alarming trend that is being witnessed with wireless data providers to completely ignore quality of service of internet services other than HTTP. If they are actually selling a browsing only product, then their product should be sold as a browsing only product, or at a minimum, they should warn their potential customers that their product will not be suitable for internet services where latency plays a key role.

I would like MTN and VODA to publicly state their policy towards internet services other than HTTP.

[edit : Once again IS steps up the the plate and proudly ... does nothing .. sigh. ]

To Vodacom, MTN and Neotel,

Please state your position in allowing VoIP over your internet connectivity services.

To Neotel Telkom,
Please state your reluctance in providing VPN's or APN's over your wireless network.

To Iburst
Please state the delay in providing Mobile Wimax over your WIMAX network.
