I haven't used an electric geyser or stove in years. Geyser is solar, stove is gas. Do I still have to pay R3000 to monitor/control of nothing???????

The monitoring is a want not a have to have

Sure it will help to know that everything is working right

Having a flat battery will also do that

I assume talking victron here?

You can change settings later if needed , without having to go through the slept of laptop pc connection

I do not think this will happen soon and I seriously doubt that Sputla's plan to make us pay for his smart meter folly will work.

In the end the authority that sends you your electricity account will have to pay the R3000 per smart meter.

Let's hope for some SABC like government incompetence for the next couple of years. I will fight anyone that tries to remove my spinning disk meter.

The OP is talking aboutthe R3000 our minister of electricity wants us to pay for a smart meter at every house so that he can switch off our geysers.
*houses - they're using the Geyser bit as a red herring

How to chase more people away from your service.....

And no, if they "want" to upgrade a meter, they can pay for it.

Ramokgopa said South Africans should do this out of “genuine commitment to resolving the problem of load-shedding”.
rofl.

Yes we must switch off your solar geyser so that there is moar sun available to power other things.
In fact, we need to put meters on all solar and start charging for using it, currently, its just being stolen

hus, as part of the solution to end load-shedding, the government wants to ensure that geysers are turned off when not in use.

Ramokgopa clarified that this does not mean South Africans will not have hot water when needed. Instead, they will only have hot water when they need it.

That's not how it works; if the geysers are turned off because not is use (Whatever that means) - there is a big p[possibility that homes go without hot water. Geyser will cool down and won't turn back on, because its its been remotely switched off.

Idiots.

I do wonder if a drive for gas geysers won't be more efficient in the long run? However, I assume LPG prices will skyrocket if the demand suddenly increases tenfold, with possible shortages?

Why don't we leverage our relationship with Russia and get cheaper gas from them?

Our tell the green muppets to **** the **** off and frack the **** out of the karoo and the wild coast.

Let’s see how you feel if you lived in the Karoo. Also, where will they get the water from to frack there?

I was actually looking at gas geysers and in reality the cost isn't that worth it, besides not relying on Eskom. I mean with my electric geyser and 3 showers with the occasional bath, my electrical usage is around 300 units a month, this is taking into account my stove/oven + the dipping into Eskom once in awhile to top up the batteries.
Sure some days we hit 17 units a day and others we use 4, but still the average is 300. Now a gas geyser for 3 people with the same usage would be more expensive.
