I suppose what I have against Peter's chain of thought is this : I think Africans have the right to try and present themselves in a good light. To be proud to of what they are and where they come from. Why begrudge them this ?

Pride is after all the first thing human beings need to transcend their primal state. First comes self pride , then comes social upliftment.

Some people just don't seem to realise this! It is often because of a total lack of respect and pride that some people commit then crimes they commit. You cannot just click your fingers and remedy this. Pride and respect is something that is gained over time. Events like this play their role. Throwing money at schools, hospitals etc is great but a nation needs something like this. We need to see what this place can be like if we all come together and act as one. Yes, "they" might joke and say things like why don't we just all sit, hold hands and sing kumbaya but that actually does achieve something!

Give them something to believe in. Some sense of self pride and who knows ? I hope nobody here has the uneducated and silly idea that some people are not capable of better things. What a hapless idea and thoroughly debunked by there being people of every description who are gentle and capable. It might just work for Africa if we instilled a sense of self worth. Not much of this hopelessness is helping anything in the slightest. I suppose you have a real desire to see South Africa emerge better from it's current status. Or like Peter you're rather hoping it doesn't so that your world view sits more comfortably with you.

You view would hold water if it were not for the fact that in the build up to the world cup a number of individuals were making statements about us not being able to pull off a successful world cup because the ANC could not organise a piss up in a brewery! Now because we are getting an inkling that it may be a success you make claims that they are not involved in the process at all.

Please guys, form a union or something so you can get your arguing straight and not repeatedly chop and change your views.

So how do we get the ANC to stop doing this ?

1.) We can't change them. As I have shown with MK papers, they admit that the corruption started way back during the beginnings of the struggle. It merely became widespread as the anc/sacp/cosatu finally were elected, to replace an opposition, which they themselves, in those MK papers, admitted was "not corrupt."

2.) Vote them out of power. For every 10 new members they expect each member to recruit, recruit 100 for the opposition.

3.) Hold them accountable for every action or non action that is to the detriment of any segment of the SA population.
