Connecting Fibre to router

Hello all

I am very confused. Telkom (OpenServe) recently installed fibre in my home. From my research the box they placed on the wall is a termination point. I have a router that I bought from Crystal Web (FritzBox 7490) which connects to fibre via a WAN port. The TP on my wall however doesn't have a WAN port. There's obviously something missing between the box on the wall and my router but so far nobody really seems to know what I'm talking about. People at shops just look at me blankly and refer me to another shop. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Johan

Which ISP have you taken your line + data with?

From what I understand, Openserve should have installed:

Fibre cable (yellow) -> small box without any power cabled (white)-> LAN cable (black) -> bigger box that needs a power cable -> LAN cable -> your router

Does your setup resemble this?

You will have a fly lead from the ONT (Eth1) to the WAN port.

Thank for the replies. I am with CrystalWeb. My setup is as follows: Black fibre cable connecting to a small Huawei box with one output port. Said port is too small for a WAN/LAN cable. The box is not powered. That's all. My router cannot directly connect to this.

Contact Crystal Web support, something does not sound right.

Thank you. CrystalWeb says a lot of their customers connect their routers directly to the box on the wall. I'm just not sure how because it is definitely not via a LAN cable.

I think the support rep that told you that is referring to the ONT box which you sound like you don't have. Tell them to go step by step with you to verify if the installation was done correctly.

Thanks Waylander. You are right. The ONT is missing. When OpenServe installed the fibre point and tested it they said the installation is now complete which it clearly isn't. Given that I am not using Telkom as ISP what do I need to do to get the ONT installed?

Contact Crystal Web and get them to sort it out, it's what you pay them for.

This is a junction box... which connects to your fibre outside...

that connects to the ONT with a thin yellow patch cable....

Then you run a cable from ONT port 1 to your router or AP through the WAN port.
(the router is at the top left in the pic above)

The ONT can be Huawei or Alcatel and is also supplied by Openserve.

Black cable from outside -> junction -> yellow cable -> ONT -> black cable -> router

I see you guys know what your talking about so ild like to ask a few questions. Openserve has been doing a rollout in out estate and is done, ive ordered a pakage from them though afrihost and do any of you know they wire a line into my house from the long black cable in every other unit and if they have to drill my qall to her it in or do they use the telkom adsl box what in most of our kitchens.
