Hi

For the last couple of days I have a problem where sometimes when I connect my connection just drops after a few seconds. If my connection stays up for say 30 sec then its fine for hours normally. It's also been getting worse, I've been having this problem over 50% of the time when I've been trying to connect today.

I have this problem in JoBurg and Pretoria. It is also happening to a colluege of mine so I don't think it's my datacard.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Mav

Hi Veroland

The same started happening to me yesterday. If it does not drop within a few seconds it usually stays connected for hours as you said...

Same with my Vodacom 3G w/Nokia 6680 .... I connect to either Vlive or Vodacom4me profile and it just tries to establish a connection , connects and within 3 seconds gets disconnected. I tried with Cell C and MTN sim cards, they are working fine.

This problem started about 2 days ago for me.
I have tested and experienced this problem in Durbanville/Sonstraal Heights and Tygervalley areas in Cape Town

my problem is nearly that cept that even if i can connect , my connection remains unstable. crashing the card etc ... and then i go through the whole try to reconnect process.

I got a friend in Bellville trying to connect on gprs. He says he gets connected, but the connection drops after a few seconds. He has been struggling for the last week or so.

Getting the same here on the STB Golf Course 3 cell. GPRS connects, then drops.

Newb-lite,
Have you upgraded the firmware on your card as this problem seems to have gone away since my upgrade a while back to V14.0. Check your firmware version in the dashboard by clicking on "Tools, Diagnostics" - the Revision should show something like 14.0-14.0. If not, try going to http://168.210.128.126/packages/3g/downloads.aspx and download the firmware upgrade for your card - the card type is shown on the above diagnositcs screen.

v3G - I notice that the latest on this website is now V12 for the Novatel U630 - what happened to V14.0?

v3g did post about that a while back - some problem with the Novatel v14 firmware, that resulted in v12 being the preferred/recommended firmware version...

Thanks ic - I must have missed that post. I suppose one cannot downgrade the firmware?

Hmmm, v3g, lets have the full story. I beleive you are struggling with some internal issues which I have from a reliable source. My speed this morning also SUCKS big time. Tell us what is going on internally.

The only problem I'm aware of (and I just checked again) was a WAP gateway that supports WAP1-type traffic but this was restored around 1pm today.

There was another problem where the number of concurrent connections exceeded some threshold, but this was sorted in the last day or so. That would have caused dropped connections.

Of course, I'm not saying there aren't problems, just that there's no single major issue.

If you're seeing bad throughput, won't you post or PM me your area, your IP addr and your assigned DNS settings (do an 'ipconfig /all'). This will tell me which internet link your using. I want to check for possible relevance.

Anyone in the Cape seeing slow throughput?

Nope, I am Cape Town and perfect... :) Just those connection drops when loggin onto the data network.

Hi - speeds seem fine, but whereas in the past I could be logged on all day long (literally 12 - 14 hours) this week there have been dropped connections every day. Not enough to scream about, but a definite change in reliability.

And (alas) tonight the smtp server is timing out again ...

No joy with 3G!

 Well ever since i got 3G i have had the same problem. Where i am connected for about 30sec - 5min then get disconnected. or if i am connected for longer than that any data received has errors in it so windows doesn't accept it (which is wasteing my data bundle maybe that is what vodacom wants?). Then i have to disconnect and connect again. Well i have compalined about sixteen times this month and vodacom does absoulte nothing! whats new for our leading celluar network once they have your money they don't care. now if they were the only cellular network then everyone would be against then. just like telkom (50% owner of vodacom i can see that!) maybe one day everybody will wake up and see vodacom sucks!
