But... now this is a big but, I dont have a massive 1080 HD TV. I'm so sick of PC games being ports and wasting money on hardware for god aweful **** thats being released on PC. In my books, PC gaming is dead and gone. It's only scraping along; due to Publishers/Devs or whatever are needing the extra donut cash here and there. So they make ports. I'm over it. Back to the topic. If I buy one, will I be able to use my current PC monitor ( 19") to play on PS3. What extra cables will I need? Will it look good enough? Will I be sacrificing any visual quality? What are the cons and what are the pros. Thanks :)

EDIT: Where is the the cheapest possible place to buy one? :D

As far as connecting a PS3 to an LCD monitor is concerned, you will most probably need a new monitor, unless your current monitor supports HDCP. I would suggest you try get a new LCD whilst Incredible Connection is running their special on trading in your old monitor and getting discount off a new one. In which case you could grab a Samsung 2333SW LCD for R1299. This will allow you to make use of Full HD 1080p on the PS3. Now although most games only run at 720p, 1080p would be a better investment for future proofing yourself. The only cable you should need with this would be an HDMI -> DVI cable.

If you had to get a HDTV you would probably end up with better visual quality in terms of contrast and colour, nothing too much to worry about though!

Another thing to consider if you going to use a Monitor is that unless the monitor has HDMI input and speakers built in, you will have to use separate speakers for audio. All depending on your setup.

As far as cheap places to buy PS3's, I'm not 100% sure. You should check out the local ps3za forum for any 2nd hand ps3 sales, there are often good deals happening! ;)

One thing I can suggest is that if you want a console for just games then get an Xbox 360. If you want a consoles that can do games and bluray, then get a PS3.

To be able to give a decent answer we have to know the model or specs and the inputs available on the monitor.

BTW the PS3 is the correct choice, do not listen to the opposition! :p

Just please don't turn into anoter IAP with the PS3 :/

The ps3 is really an incredible little machine, never regret my baby. The slim is a much better design as there are a few issues with the older phatt version and over heating.

Wii Wii Wii Wii Wii Wii Wii Wii Wii Wii

(it is after all the undisputed console war winner)

If you're 12 years old! Yes!

The Wii has the highest educational profile, and the other two are much more heavily weighted toward consumers with no college degree. The Wii profile would be even more extreme if one left out the 3- to 17-year-old age group.

These charts bear out the contention given in the text box above — that the Wii not only competes very forcefully in demographic segments normally considered the province of the Xbox and the Play Station, but, in addition, has a very strong edge among the more affluent, the younger, and the better educated.

Ergo the Xbox and PS3 are for retards. ;)

:D

Trying to get an unbiased answer from a forum? Check if your monitor has HDMI input. If not then go shopping. I suggest a TV instead because playing consoles on the couch is much better & u cannot do that with a dinky screen. As far as consoles are concerned, the PS3 is the logical choice because of the potential of the PS3. Playing games is one thing but there are times that the extra functionality will add value to your life.

nicely said dude, it's more than just a console.

And by that, he means the limited home entertainment features ;)

Joke aside, games are roughly equal on either console and it comes to down to the exclusives. I've tried a PS3 and Xbox side-by-side with similar games (Forza 2 and GT5 Prolugue) with both on HDMI. Guess what? That massive difference everyone has been telling you does not really exist. Some games are slighly better on the 'box, some are better on the PS3 and some are negligable.

Blu Ray? Well that's pretty decent and could be a reason. But what exactly is 'not a massive 1080'? If it's small, you're going to be hard pressed to notice a huge difference between DVD and BD - let alone upscaled DVD on a screen that size.

Home entertainment - fantastic. Slightly limited in what it can play and do, but not too bad if that's what you're looking for. My TV plays more formats than what it offers. If you've got a ton of movies, series and music in different codecs/contaiers and are a real media buff, your best bet is to go seperate if you can.

Listening to certain people on here, you'll be think the PS3 is *the* best when it comes to every function. Truth is, it isn't, and it's up to the indivuda to determine what he currently has (equipment wise), what he will get in future (equipment wise), what he values most about the functions (BD? games? streaming?) andwhat games you prefer.

Non-bias enough? ;)

It's simple - if you want to play games, play free online and have the additional BR player as an added bonus, get the PS3.
If you just want a BR player, get a stand alone.
If you want to play Halo, get a 360.

Halo, Gears of War 2, Fable, Forza?? They are the ones i want to play. But i went for a PS3 since it has a few more exclusives i wanted to play.
But its your opinion i guess.
