console vs pc

Another reason that PC gaming will always be around is because it is so easy to port games from Xbox 360 to PC, so even if the PC gaming market was entirely dead, there would still be PC games available because Game designers want to make as much profit as possible, so they release games on dual platforms to get profit from console and PC gamers.

Also if you look at the price of PC's over the last 10 years you will see thats its becoming cheaper and cheaper to buy PC's and im sure pretty soon there won't be a diff in price between PC's and Consoles, 10 years ago a 486 would cost you R15000.

Almost every household has a PC in it these days, and its pushing the price of PC's down dramatically. because PC's are for everyone not just for gamers.

This is not the case with consoles.

I do agree with everyones statements. I'm just thinking along the line of Hardware. I would deff. never chuck my PC out the window. However, You need to admit that Consols are cutting it very close. Think back 10 Years like
u metioned. There was just no way you could compare a console(Atari, Nintendo etc.) to a PC. But it's really cutting it close these days.

I think we can all agree to that.

Well they are more then cutting it close, I would say that for the price you pay for a console you get a much better system then if you had to use that money for a PC.
But this gap changes very quickly, Honestly when the Xbox is able to use a mouse and a keboard and I can download all the programs I need like Microsoft office and I can surf the web with firefox, then ill get one.

Nicely said !

are people still on crack in here, why all the fuss, just go out there and spend the damn money.please.
this topic is like religion, there is not good answer.

hahahahahaha! with the playstation3 you can use keyboard and mouse, and it runs operating system
I was also going to comment about the keyboard and mouse thing but it seems brawler already did, though here is another link for you, showing you how Halo can be used with a keyboard and mouse, note how this was out in 2004 already

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/6918/Play-Halo-on-Xbox-with-a-Keyboard-Mouse/

I also believe ShockG has explained already that the xbox... also has an Operating system, I've also explained that the linux system on the PS3 is only designed for the PS3 to play games and so on, you aint going to be able to run other things on it other than mostly games, if you want to run programs.. keep the PC.

It actually makes sense though that Sony used Linux.. MS have been designing OS systems for longer than almost anyone in the business, if Sony want to compete they would never be able to make an OS from the ground up that was even close to par.. hence why they went for linux.

But Scotty you seem pretty set on the PS3? Everyone here has given you more than enough information, and I'm guessing at least 80% is for the Xbox

If you want to get one (ps3), get one. I've been playing MMO's online since 1994, Spent way to much time on the the PS1, and PS2. For me, from my experience and gaming I've done so far, the XBOX is the better option. Everyone else though has their own opinion and its your choice in the end.. though the numbers now cant be wrong.. Sony might of been king.. they aint anymore

Well IMO people buy consoles due to the fact that you can walk into the shop, pick up a game bearing the logo of your console, go home and simply pop it in and play...no mess..no fuss....no updates/patches/drivers/compatibility issues/system specs/etc....just pop in and play...but yes I do agree that a console will never replace a PC...

So what worked for me was buying a console that I like and then a standard entrylevel PC (3hz is entrylevel these days)..for like R2500...which caters for all my CD-Writing/Music/Office/Divx/Browsing/etc...needs...i dont need alot of ram or a fancy graphics card....

So instead of spending R10000 on a fancy computer I decided its best to buy a Standard PC and a Console for cheaper :D ...works for me

You have a PC Scotty... So use it now and get the console. With the media I"d say for sure get a xbox since if its set up right you can stream it all to your xbox.. if you dont like the console sell it, At least they usually hold their value for longer than the PC's do

@Darkwater.. well I bought the XBox because of a game I wanted to play that only came out on the xbox.. so I had to get one. And it was to become my Multimedia center which it has.. One thing though. Consoles also have patches now. At least they download quick since they usually are to fix glitches and dont have to accomodate 4 different Graphics cards, 7 CPU's, etc, And the OS also gets regular updates and patches, but its all over and done in the time it would take you to install a game on your PC

Kalvaer, i respect you opionon but the thing is i hot 56gigs of music and im just don't know how to put it on the xbox's 20gig hard drive. and if i bought another one, from what i've read a 20gig cost's about R1000, so if i were to get a 60gig it would cost about R2500, that added to R3600 for the console it self, i would need to spend like R6000+

If you already have a pc then why not stream it to the xbox??

Update your PC - get a Xbox - get a PS3 (eventually) - just please I'm begging you, get something :o You've heard every conceivable argument for all of them.

just keep the music on your pc and let the xbox access the pc

damn.. someone beat me to the reply!

LOL yeah as they all said.. My Wife is a Music Freak, excluding her Ipod and Laptop she has close to 90 gigs on her PC alone. If anyone we knows goes to the USA and doesn't bring her back an ITUNES music voucher.. they are in BIG trouble. At our wedding she actually ended up having to bring her Ipod along since the DJ's never had most of the stuff she wanted to play.

Using Windows Media player 11, all she does is share her music folders on her PC, Start the Xbox, move to the media tab, select computer, choose the folder and Voila.. it plays on the XBOX through our surround sound system.

Nothing easier, when she wants to play off her Ipod, she just plugs it into the XBox, and selects Ipod in the Media tab, and she can view all her stuff and playlists.

As I said, I got the xbox because I wanted to play a game that only came out on Xbox, and the Wife wanted to build a media PC, Now the Xbox does all that. I stream my movies from my PC to the living room via Wireless routers to the XBox, and she does the same with her music

:D

EDIT: If you jump quickly.. there is a guy on the XBOX SA forums selling a sealed unit with games for 4k... need to hurry though, I doubt it will last long

Hi peoples. I'm selling my Xbox360. It's still sealed in the box, core system. With an extra Wireless Controller and 20Gb Hard Drive. I also have Dead or Alive 4, Kameo, Enchanted Arms and Crash bandicoot with it. Looking at R4000 for the lot!
