Constant Disconnects

Since the release of WOTLK, I've had constant DCs when doing Wintergrasp or other 25 mans. I DC once and then every time I try to log in afterwards results in an instant DC at end of loading screen.

It only happens when in big raids (Wintergrasp or 25 mans) and it usually happens in raids when Heroism goes off so I believe this bug must be related to amount of activity on screen or something.

I can log in again after I die in Wintergrasp or if the 'activity' seems to die down. So it's just like theres too much going on for my internet to handle or something.

Thing is changing graphical settings and closing all background applications doesn't make it difference. It seems purely WoW related. Anyone else had this problem?

It's not WoW related since everyone on the Server would get DCs if it were. It's a Telkom thing I get one dc a day but that is normal becasue of IP change. The past 3 days I get a ping of around 6k for about 5-10 mins and after that it will go back down to around 380-420. Sometimes becasue of the high ping I'll dc but not allways. I'm on Mal'Ganis EU (German Server).

I get DC'ed often when i use my YF VPN, which is limited to 256kbps. When i switch over to normal - 512kbps, no DC's. This leads me to believe it's a bandwidth problem. Too much data, pipe too narrow. How fast is your ADSL? 384kbps or lower might be too thin.

ive played fine with 384k on wow with no dc's or lag problems have more problems when i'm on 4 meg lol with high latency

Well Im nowhere near Telkom.. and I have had constant disconnects. Last night I joined alterac valley... and was disconnected. I could only get my mage back AFTER the bg was finished. Basically the game would load, and then I would drop instantly... yet none of my other two characters where effected.

Loads of people on our server are complaining about disconnects and lag. Though its weird that its not effecting everyone.

Perhaps thats what todays server downtimes are about?

Yeah I was just doing VOA 25 and instant DC on heroism.......lowerping.com don't support Windows 7 yet but I'll try the other fixes..

Martin, I was having the same issues -> Login -> Select Charater -> Enter. At the end of the loading screen it would hang for a few seconds and I would get DCed. The next attempt I got in without any problems. I updated all my mods and it solved the problem.

Make sure you are using the Curse application to update your mods or you could miss a few.

@ Martin, as MaryJane said its mostlikely an addon causing this. Make sure they are fully updated. Make use of the Curse client in the future.
Also you can try to clear your cache (wow\Cache\) and maybe backup your WTF and start clean there also. If you start with a clear Cache, Interface & Wtf folders then you will quickly see if its an addon problem, cause it will then work, just with all Blizzards stupid defaults, but you can then start installing addons again or figure out which addon it is. Just backup those folders 1st :) GL

@ others Its not a banwith problem, wow uses maybe 20mb @ the most per hour down+up and if u work that out its not all that much KB/sec

And if u are using something like lowerping+proxifier you will see your wow usage in KB/sec & overall. 384 line is perfectly fine, even with 25 man spikes. The problem is elsewhere. (I've even raided ulduar 25 with 2 people on a 384)

I had these exact same problems and I spend allot of time working with lowerping staff, telkom etc to get it working fine for me, again I refer to everything I've done in this thread. GL

ok so I never dc'ed at all last night, not on TOC 25, TOC 25 Heroic or Onyxia 25. I am not sure yet what exactly has changed but as mentioned before I made a number of changes like disabled combat log, del wtf/cache, disable most addons, etc. Most notably I did those tcpip fix and network card fixes (disabling loading).

Since Tuesday however I have been house sitting so I'm playing from a different location (same pc), it might just be this.

What I'd do is check the Line Attenuation & Noise Margin on both lines and post them for us.
As I said in my post I did that combination of things and it worked for me, personally I still think its got allot to do with Line Attenuation & Noise Margin

I'm happy you could raid 25 man without problems thou. Hope its the same @ your home

Something funny happened last night...was doing arena and suddenly my MS halved...first time I've seen Yellow MS for a year or so.

Today it turns out all our phones are broken and our phone line is 'down', but my ms is down to 400 (really low for me) and my speeds up way up. Lol, so should I get a seperate line or something or should I use fewer phones on my line (got 3). I don't understand how it works!

ok I came home quickly and checked my router and my line seems to be messed, totally messed since the telkom technician messed around with the settings, my line is suddenly on 2.88mbs, I have had a 4mb forever and it was always running at 4mb.

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin 6.3 8.0
Line Attenuation 44.3 31.5
Errored Seconds 80549 4006
Loss of Signal 213 213
Loss of Frame 0 0
CRC Errors 8013 49
Data Rate 2848 288 kbps
Latency FAST FAST

Last week it was the following, I sent this email to the telkom dude:

Downstream

Upstream

SNR Margin 28.6 13.0 dB
Line Attenuation 22.9 12.0 dB
Errored Seconds 8 58
Loss of Signal 1 1
Loss of Frame 0 0
CRC Errors 7 98
Data Rate 4096 512 kbps
Latency FAST FAST

so please compare both to yours.

ok so telkom did a reset of my port and I removed the phone line extension and rather using a network cable and my settings are good again:

Downstream

Upstream

SNR Margin 26.7 14.0 dB
Line Attenuation 22.3 11.5 dB
Errored Seconds 1 0
Loss of Signal 1 1
Loss of Frame 0 0
CRC Errors 0 0
Data Rate 4096 512 kbps
Latency FAST FAST

A port reset etc is a good thing once in a while. I endup having them do it after bigass storms etc.

Mine:

Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 16.0 db 8.0 db
Noise Margin 28.9 db 14.0 db

Lemme point this out, thx to (tibby.dude) :

Line Attenuation.

Line attention is in relation to the "loop loss" on your line.
The further you are away from the exchange the higher your attenuation figure will be as the signal loss increases.
The lower your attenuation figure the more chance you have of getting the faster speeds.

SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio).

The SNR margin can only be measured from your own property and therefore to be measured correctly may need an engineer visit to check this figure from the BT test socket behind your master phone socket.Your SNR figure can fluctuate on a day to day basis and may vary depending upon local equipment, conditions and interference.
An upgrade in speed often causes the SNR to decrease by up to 5 dB.The higher your SNR figure then the better your line quality and therefore a higher chance of getting faster speeds.

Line Length.

Ideally your line length should be below 3.5km from the exchange to get a 2Mb connection.
At the present time the general public has no way of checking themselves this figure.
However, you may be able to get an indication by using Sams checker.

Downstream Attenuation

0-43 dB - 2Mbps
43-60 dB - 1Mbps
> 60 dB - 512kbps

Downstream SNR

Should be at least 10 dB to get adsl - ideally above 12dB.
Anything less than this will see frequent disconnections and other problems.

I have pretty much given up by now...

DC'd again like crazy IN TOC even in Onyxia 25 man when I AOE'd the whelps down.

My router only gives me the following information though :

Line attenuation downstream : 7 DB
Line attenuation upstream : 4.5 DB
Noise margin : Downstream : 18.6 DB
Noise Margin Upstream : 12 DB

4 Meg ADSL.

I am ruling out PC hardware 100% for now. Upgraded my PC and raiding at pretty much 170 FPS in an instance which is crazy, two dedicated CPU cores just for WoW, not even mid dalaran makes my pc stutter at max quality graphics + max details enabled anymore.

When I DC now... its not even like pc is getting slower or jerky before the drop, it just drops me.

Maybe its a sign... Aion is calling. Its frustrating and horrible DC'ing mid raids.
