My mother keeps getting these calls from an unknown number, as soon as we try to answer it immediately disconnects. It happening about about 3-5 times a day.

Anyone have a clue why this might be happening, what could somebody possibly gain from calling a number and disconnecting immediately? Couldn't hear something on the other side so it's almost as if it's automated?

Been having the same - just wondering if its the Aliens ?

Edit : That would be the Nigerians !

When someone troubles me with calling, I answer the call without speaking. The other person gets confused.

My gf had this crazy guy calling her the whole time, I mean crazy like mental institute, She got like 40 + calls in about 2hours from this guy. Anyway it was so bad she couldn't even make a personal phone call. Luckily I think one of the staff members at the hospital got the phone from the guy and it never happened again. Ah we had so much fun/ and yet at the same time it was SO annoying....

Been getting the same and eventually put a call blocking program on my phone.

Think we found the culprit, Vodacom!

Apparently my mom's contract is ending soon and different employees from Vodacom including some duds are calling her endlessly to renew it.

The calls i get just drop the second i answer, as some others have said in this thread... The second i pick up, it's just a dead line

I've also been getting private number calls that hang up as soon as I pick up. I just ignore all private number calls now, but that's almost just as irritating. I think my phone has a built-in call blocker though, must check and enable.

Sent from a Noteworthy Galaxy :D

Some of them are also looking for people I've never heard of, again all unknown numbers.
There was about 8 calls today, although we just started pressing the red button, whoever was the nearest...

I know its an old thread but I didn't want to create a new one. I am getting 2 - 3 calls a day from a Pvt number & the minute I answer its dropped.

Anyone else having this issue?

Had the same, turns out that every tom dick and harry at Vodacom was trying and failing to remind us, that the contract needed renewing.

Oh my thread lol...
Yeah just don't answer private numbers, wonder if some Vodacom call center employees are responsible for the spam? Their in a pretty good position to do so.

It seems that I am having the same problem.

Random times+ pvt number = hangs up.

Cant be a stalker, does not call after six. lol.

I have heard that there are call centre number dialers that dial your number, if no agent picks up the call on the other end it then drops the call.

My solution, answer the call let them get billed. just keep quiet.

If they want to speak, by all means go ahead. FFS it is becoming irritating.

MyTools FTW! You can direct all calls from blocked numbers directly to voicemail.

When are Vodacom going to come up with something similar?

as i know, vodacom contract NO. does not display caller id, therefore all phone calls i get is coming with UNKNOWN
but if some hide his/her NO. it should show private no. insted of unknown.as i know, vodacom contract NO does not

Beware of sim swop fraud. See the thread about woman losing R800000.00 from bond account. Contact your provider.
