Constructive criticism and advice needed on my online store

Using existing platforms I feel you can't really give your customers the individual attention they deserve. A lot of my existing clients aren't interested in researching different components and seeing which component works best for what they want to do and that is where I come in.

Using existing selling portals does not mean that you cannot engage with your customers. Selling portal is exactly that. For selling & fulfillment only. Nothing prevents you from having a web presence on simpler website / Facebook etc that points to your products on a selling portal. The point is that existing sites are far better integrated and capable of giving you better tools for sales analysis, campaign management, response tracking, CRM, etc etc.

The reason why I ask is that a friend asked me this very same question as he wants to sell some products as well. My wife sells stuff from Takealot but initiates her campaigns from FaceBook and Instagram. As much as I despise FB, it works for sellers. When she runs a campaign, she can actually track the users from FB through to the Takelot sale... Pretty nifty

Running your own site then also necessitates fulfilling individual orders yourself whereas through a selling portal there is the option for them to fulfill, relieving you of that burden.

Think of how many products you need to sell to make enough profit to pay back the investment in building your own ecommerce site. And also the time it takes. Whereas using a selling portal and other tools, you can start selling immediately. I.e. quicker time to market.

Just my 2c though
